We did two days of clinic where they learned a dance and a cheer. Then, one day of mock tryouts with score sheets. Tryouts on Thursday. Girls go out in groups of three and do their dance and cheer together. Then, they individually do their jumps, chant, and tumbling.

Normally, we do three days of clinic, but some of the girls were going to the national DECA convention in Orlando.

Our former school just had tryouts--no dance or anything. You just go out by yourself and do it all alone. No prep or clinics.

At my upcoming tryouts, (going into high school) we have one day where we practice cheers and jumps and then the second day we demonstrate them in small groups to the judges and they tell you whether you are on varsity or junior varsity. Everyone makes a team.

We had a 3 day clinic where the girls had to learn 2 short game cheers, 1 longer competition style cheer, and a 10 eight count dance. 4th day was tryouts and they performed in groups of three plus jumps together. Any girl who wanted to fly had to demonstrate her pulls and every tumbler had to throw their two hardest skills. Our seniors also conducted individual interviews throughout the tryout and what they said there could have been a factor if they were on the border (in some cases they got removed form the program entirely). Boys did not have to tryout; every boy makes a team.
