I know I'm probably like way behind, and this is a stupid question but people are like What's the tea? Or that's tea....what does it mean??

Geez, y'all. It's like a brown, or sometimes green, drink, that's steeped from these leaves and tastes kinda good. Southerners like it really, really sweet. And Brits have, like, a whole snack time for it.

Why do I feel like I have to repeat myself with this all the time???

From Urban Dictionary [with some redactions...feel free to fill it in]

Tea

Used within the urban gay community, "tea" signifies a piece of sensitive and possibly highly sought-after information or tidbit.
Michael: Did you hear the tea about our Judy Dante?

Cornelius: Nah gurra, what's the tea?

Michael: The tea is that she dropped out of school to [...].

Cornelius: [...] duh! That ain't no tea. That's just some water with a lemon in it.
