CEA Small Coed Monarchs

level 5? Really??

i was going to stand up for them... until they singled down from their stunts. were they originally level 4 pushing for 5 or something? they are wearing the program uniform, which would lead me to believe that maybe they weren't originally a 5 (since all of the 5's have distinct uniforms.) their stunts are creative and really fun to watch, and they would do wonderfully in level 4. maybe R5, but all of the basics/quantities aren't even there yet for that division. i'm also 90% sure the boy with the beautiful tumbling and only double on the team is also on phoenix... so take him away from the count, too.

i try to tread lightly on this topic and be nice and give the benefit of the doubt... but i've said the same thing for numerous years about CAC (who finally has an R5 this year :cheering: woohoo!) Just because you are a large gym and have the kids, does not mean that 75% of them have to go to worlds. but to each their own, i guess.

Let me preface this with asking everyone to chill on the "teal army rant" to this reply. It's NOT. I just happen to know those kids and that team and can speak to what was asked.

That said,

I don't think anyone would argue that they have the skills to be competitive in small coed. But it's not all about winning worlds and getting bids. The kids on that team have made massive personal improvements since the beginning of the season, they love each other to death and work as a team to get better. Their goal is to learn new skills and beat themselves from competition to competition. That's what that team is about. Learning, experience, gaining skills etc. I was really proud of them yesterday, they just keep getting better and better.

And all four boys crossover, two to Phoenix and two to Coed Elite but again, their purpose isn't to "sandbag" it's to support and teach and learn themselves by getting more floor time. I mean you can't teach a girl to coed stunt without a guy and they can't learn from each other unless their are some strong ones. The guy with the beautiful tumbling on Phoenix too has never cheered before in his life so he does both teams to learn, get reps and floor time for his own personal growth. If they're in restricted he can't get experience building new passes to doubles (he's never tumbled before either, he was a wakeboarder so everything you see from him is a new skill in the last four months really). And if your goal isn't to win, but to learn and gain lv5 experience, does it matter if you're restricted or not? One of the other guys couldn't even toss hands two months ago (also never cheered before) and he's hitting toss Cupie and his confidence has grown incredibly!

That's a great team that is accomplishing more personal/team goals than probably any other team. I just think you have to keep in perspective that their goals are not necessarily the same as everyone else's and quite legitimately "winning isn't everything" in this context.

If they got a bid would they go to worlds? Or does CEA only go on paid bids?

I'm pretty sure that team's "year end" goal is different than worlds but I'm
Not sure. I don't know that they have anymore bid competitions on the schedule. I think they've got UCA on the schedule (maybe?) but if they don't have then they're done with bid competitions for the season.

We do go on at large bids, one of my CPs has a paid, the other has at large and they're both going.

Are they black socks or is every kid is wearing an ankle brace on both ankles.?

Again with the black socks :banghead:. I'm sorry but they don't look good with cheerleading uniforms (or at all in my opinion), I don't know why teams continue to wear them. Like you said, it looks like every person on the team has ankle braces on both ankles, it's distracting.
Ok, rant over.

I didn't notice their footwear but I'm sure they are socks. Clearly every kid on that team wouldn't need two ankle braces. I understand they don't have lv5 tumbling but their technique isn't bad for what they can throw.

Ok I wasn't raging on the tumbling technique! I asked honestly because its so rare to see it especially for a CEA team since they are usually pretty clean cut. The fact that I said I don't think they are level 5 ready had nothing to do with it!
