Yes, they will mix with anything. Once higher than a kite judgement goes out the window. Kids especially have a 'I'll live forever attitude' when it comes to dangerous situations and do not think of long term consequences. I have a former hockey player who is basically brain fried from the combination of drugs he had been on by the time he was 21. Once on one drug he would do anything to continue the high. One of the anti addiction drugs they have him made him higher than his usual drug of choice so he began doubling up on those doses and adding other items in.
"Anti-addiction drugs"?

you're probably right, i don't know for some reason i expect people to take action if they see friend or relative having a problem like this but then again maybe they did but it didn't help , who knows
It' just like CheerDad said, it is very difficult to understand the whole thing whenever someone seemed to be so happy , succesfull and loved by everyone

It's extremely difficult to take action and help someone who does not want it. I am not implying all these people knew and did nothing about it. No one wants to lose their friend or precious daughter. That is the part of addiction that is a disease. Someone who does not want to be sober will not succeed at rehab. She was also legally an adult, so her parents could not forcibly put her in rehab.

I've known people who have done extremely well at rehab, only had to stay for 90 days and can get back to living their lives with some NA meetings to keep them on track. I know people who have gone to rehab at least 10 times, have been in and out of halfway houses and they want to get better but they can't seem to stay on track. And unfortunately I knew people who went to rehab, came out and took the dosage of heroin they were shooting up prior to rehab and died instantly. Relapse is also no joke. But until you make up your mind that you want to get better no amount of help, interventions, or rehab will help you. That is the reality of drug addiction.

It's not as easy as you would think to help someone who doesn't want or doesn't think they need help.
My uncle was this person. Died at age 60 from cirrhosis of the liver directly related to years of alcoholism. He knew what the drinking was doing to him before it got to the point that led to his death - but nothing his son, my mom or grandmother could say or do could convince him he needed help or to stop. I very much understand addiction and my heart breaks for those it affects - but like I have stated before it's a choice you put yourself in from the very first drinks or taking the first drugs.

Interesting. I was actually concerned that people were acting like they were in denial about what could be the real situation simply because the person was a pretty cheerleader that had obtained a level of success in cheerleading that most people dream of.

i thought i posted this the other day but i guess not, so here it is. this journal article is from may 2014:

JAMA Network | JAMA Psychiatry | The Changing Face of Heroin Use in the United States:  A Retrospective Analysis of the Past 50 Years

several pop news outlets covered the article's findings:

Today's Heroin Addict Is Young, White And Suburban : Shots - Health News : NPR

that's the thing about heroin. it's not just a "nighttime recreational drug." it can't be. maybe she was taking enough uppers during the day to keep herself from withdrawing... but you can't go that long without it.

theres no doubt that people can become hooked to heroin very easily, but not everyone who uses becomes addicted. occasional users do exist:

JAMA Network | JAMA Psychiatry | A Pilot Study of Occasional Heroin Users

That's very true, i haven't been thinking about that
I had a good friend who had an eating disorder , nothing you could say or do made her change her mind about what she was doing to her body. Whenever she finally made up her mind and wanted to let someone help her , her body just gave in . She just didn't wake up one morning, she was 16. One of the worst times in my life.

That is so sad. I have a friend with an eating disorder. We believe the cause was her ex husband who constantly made comments about overweight girls. Luckily she has recovered and is teaching her own kids about staying healthy and proper diets etc..

I'm sorry. :(

Domestic Violence? Ray Rice's wife/fiancee/gf is still with him after he beat and dragged her unconscious body out of an elevator by her hair. Left her propped up against a door while he chatted and did stuff. She was unconscious. Because he beat her. And she sat there at that news conference while the NFL paraded her around, talking about 'her personal responsibility for the situation.'

Trust me- not only is the human mind capable of rationalizing horrible, horrible things (as a means of self-preservation, usually), so too are damaged people perfectly capable of seeming happy/normal/healthy/etc. I don't doubt her friends knew, but it'd be very easy for her family not too. Depending on how 'occupied' she kept herself, her family might only see her for like an hour a day total during the school year. Between classes, games, clubs, homework, you can hide a LOT.

gosh i remember four lokos before they took the alcohol out of them... they all tasted like crap to be honest. but i was able to get drunk off just drinking two or three, and to a broke college kid those things were pure genius at the time.

They took the caffeine out. They still sell them and they're still alcoholic.
