I just joined but have read the board for years. Over the past week I have read all the post about CALI/SMOED. What I find amusing is that there are two threads now dedicated to this one team for a season that really just begun, considering they have only done one competition. The majority of the comments made on the threads are negative towards them. If you don't like them why put so much energy into them and give them so much attention? You watch the show and even spend time on this thread. In essence they continue to get publicity and grow in popularity whether it is good or bad. We all know the saying, " there is no such thing as bad publicity". Well this is a prime example.

I guarantee that at Palm Springs, Dallas, Worlds, ect they will have one of the largest crowds, people will hang around to watch them and flood the stage area like always, the show will probably have more views then ever, the kids and coaches will continue to each rack up social media followers, book camps, and get bombarded with people wanting their photos.

Human behavior is simply intriguing....

And this is a bad thing because...?
I don't think the posters were wishing anything bad onto the team, coaches or kids. This isn't the "Take down Smoed 2k15" thread. ;)

I didn't judge it as a good or bad thing. I stated it is interesting. Interesting that so much attention is focused on what people have such negative opinions about. It may not be a take down smoed thread but it isn't far from it. Just my opinion.

When a team participates in a weekly reality show it is only natural that this will generate some discussion. And FB is a cheer discussion board so I think it is fine that there are pages and pages about the show, after all they did put themselves out for it.

I will point out that many of these pages may be filled with pictures of cats, dogs and epic derailments so we are not continuously talking about SMOED for every one of those pages. Also, if I remember correctly, the show began airing in the summer time which can be a typically quiet time in the cheer world as it is between seasons and there is not a whole lot of anything else is going on.

Never said that it was anything wrong with it, people can and will do what they like. What a said was it is interesting that the majority of the post about the team are negative. So why is there so much attention given to them? Why continue to give it so much focus to negatively? What is the intention in doing so? Just because. For every cause there is an effect.

They are one in a thousand teams in cheer. I just think it is interesting how we as humans are drawn to negatively, give it attention and focus which really just makes it even more popular. It's not just cheer, it's society as a whole. This is just a small representation of it. Interesting that there is aren't two threads about volunteer and service projects some of these teams do.

Wasn't looking for a cosigner just stating my newbie observation.

Tannaz should have included a special thank you to the FB in her letter for making SMOED the hottest topic in the industry..

Discuss on...

I thought the purpose of locking the old thread and starting a new thread was to conclude the pervious discussion. Not to just move it

Hopefully ATV will post the app exclusive of next weeks episode and then yall can discuss that
Back on page 2 (?) someone asked a similar question and Kings reply indicated he didn't lock the thread so people would stop talking about it.

Personally I think he hates cats and didn't want to see them any longer.

**i have decided to announce my retirement from Fierce Board. I just don't know when or if it'll be forever**

I just want to say sorry if my initial reply was harsh, that was not my intention. I do agree with you that it is strange that there are so many negative replies, if someone doesn't like the team why post about it? I was disagreeing over the number of pages the thread has...it is a discussion board so I think it has to allow people to express their opinions, be they positive or negative.

I would also like to point out that attention is paid to much of the community service this team engages in. While it may not be the same amount of attention I think it's important that this attention and recognition is given.

But again sorry if I was overly harsh.

No worries. I have been in this for a dozen years and at the end of the day I realize that these are kids. Highly talented, well trained, dedicated athletes but at the end of the day kids. I am just not one who promotes negativity without purpose and intention. So I was just curious as to why there is so much around negative emphasis on SMOED. They are undeniably one of the most recognized teams in the industry. Highly admired by so many people, including other young kids. It is just a little confusing and strange to me as well.

Because recently it appears that they've been treating kids poorly and allowing other kids to treat team mates poorly. If you've been lurking here then you know that this is no bueno and brings out the mama/papa bears in many of us.

Understandable. But again these are kids. And I am sure that all of SMOED is not treating teammates poorly. I can personally say I child is not. A huge generalization and unfair to the kids who are not.

No one has ever said all kids. In fact most of the negative comments have been geared towards the coaches allowing/encouraging (through lack of action) the kids to react emotionally without thinking. Unfortunately when you're involved in a high profile company, your actions will be more closely scrutinized than other businesses in your industry. It's something all involved should realize and expect.

Have you ever reacted emotionally to something without thinking? Just curious. Lots of victimization, blaming, attacking going on is what I read. When we all, including myself have behaviors that are less than desirable. Don't throw stones in a glass house.

My question still remains.. What is the intention of the negative comments? What is the expected outcome?
