I'm generally underwhelmed by this seasons music. I'm usually rushing to download for my workout playlist, but there's just not any mix out there I'm dying to add. I think I keep waiting for the updates to change them into some of the amazing ness we've seen before.

As of now, I'm not in danger of accidentally singing "W-I-L-D-catsssssss" or "ms. Hunnay" from any current music on the planet fitness treadmill and that's sortof my litmus test. I mean honestly... The custom grooves 8 count man has currently defined 14-15 for me. Not sure what that says....

So true. I used to workout and cook to playlists of cheer music. I feel like there's just too many quick voiceovers in all the mixes this year (Stingray Orange comes to mind). And Orange was always one of my favourite mixes.

And they're so fast you can't actually understand them especially in a loud arena. There's no simple, easy, clearly understandable "you just got X'd OUT" you are compelled to shout right along with it.

I am very pleased with our teams music this year... and even though it wouldnt have been the kids first choice they have totally embraced it!
My daughter even bought the Jersey Boys soundtrack on I tunes!

Stars music this year is one for the books. Just like the Latin theme it's gonna stick forever because only World Cup and the Jersey Girls could pull something like that off. They're always pushing boundaries and setting examples, definitely my favorite music this season!

I agree. I think the only mix I was blown away by was Great Whites and that's more to do with my connection to the team/gym than the mix itself.
I listen to some mixes JR and Patrick were putting out in 2012/2013, the likes of GT Platinum, Pink, and Black, T&S Obsession, Panthers, Wildcats, etc. and I get blown away. Everything this year sounds like it's trying too hard or not hard enough, in my opinion. Granted I'm going by well-known level 5 music. Can't say I've heard much aside from that.

The only mix I'm really loving by itself this year is Wildcats. I feel like the music for Great Whites and Cheetahs adds to their routine really well but it wouldn't do anything for me if I didn't know what their routine looked like. I also like WE Generals a lot though!

Generals is my favorite so far this year & Rockstar Beatles an extremely close second! When I first heard it & heard the voice over "Beatles, burnin up like toast" I instantly thought of that worlds thread. Hahaha

I think the excessive use of voice overs is an attempt to overcome the copyright laws that have recently become an issue in cheer music. It's also led to use of up-and-coming artists, such as Rachel Platten in SE. While I don't really like the VO's, I'm glad the cheerleading industry can help smaller artists reach wider audiences.

This! I think JR was hampered by the lawsuit. In light of all of that, I think he was able to do an admirable job with what he had left. I am interested in seeing how this effect music and the cheer world going forward.

Exactly. Like I can probably sing most of the 2013/14 mixes but even after listening to all the new ones on repeat all I know is 'It didn't end with a retweet' from Top Guns. It does concern me that they'll be less atmosphere at Worlds/NCA etc if nobody can join in for the big moments
