Does every girl competing at trials have an amanar vault?
If so i would say itll basically determine gabby being selected or not. Heck even if half the girls have one and she doesnt might have the same outcome.

Not by a long shot. If I'm not mistaken the only girls who will be throwing them this weekend are Aly, Simone and MyKayla. It's just interesting since Gabby used to have a pretty darn good one and her DTY is so clean, everyone just assumed she would be working towards getting it back. And I'm guessing she is, but if she doesn't throw it at Trials I HIGHLY doubt they would let her chuck it at the Olympic Games. If more girls were throwing them I could see it hurting Gabby more.

It's not a huge deal and it shouldn't effect the team too much. But for perspective, 5/5 girls we sent to London had one. (Kyla's was sketchy, but she could do it)

I think Marta favors Madison over Ashton, but I'm personally the other way around. If they both hit bars I think it would come down to who has the better beam.

I prefer Ashton over Madison, but Madison is the 1 of the current world champions and I think that is why Marta will continue to favor her over Ashton; she knows she can hit when it counts and that's most important.

However, I think if Ashton was at Worlds, there wouldn't be a 4-way tie, she'd be the only champion.

An scenario was brought up today by a friend. This was his thought process:


Simone is a lock. At this point I put Aly as the next obvious lock. So from there, you start to plug in the formula for 1) team finals 2) prelim AA scenarios and 3) potential apparatus medals.

As of now in prelims, you put Simone and Aly on all around. After those you, you have one more gymnast do the all around in prelims to challenge for one of the two AA spots. That spot (to me) goes to either Gabby or Laurie. A lot of people are predicting they both make the team....including myself. But when you think about it, it makes no sense if we're talking individual medal opportunities. Laurie is the 3rd best US girl on beam. Not top 3 on floor, and wouldn't be eligible for vault finals because she only does 1 vault. Gabby is not top 3 on anything but bars, but she had a decent shot at bars finals and challenging Aly for the second AA spot. So if you pick between Laurie and Gabby, advantage goes to Gabby (for potential).

So at this point we need someone for vault and floor and then someone for bars. When you're looking at potential individual medals, that person to plug in would be MyKayla. She would make vault finals and would contend for a medal.

After that we need a bars specialist. Obvi down to Ashton/Madison. In the scenario when you take Gabby OR Laurie + Mykayla, then I think you take Madison because she has the stronger beam, which we would need in prelims.



Interesting take for a Simone, Aly, Gabby, Madison, MyKayla team. I don't think this would happen but it's a possibility if you're going for MAX medal chances, I suppose.

Martha favors Madison because she's an all arounder. Being a world champ doesn't hurt her of course, but I don't think Martha would pick her just because of that. She's said in interviews that Madison's advantage over Ashton is that she can compete the other events if necessary.

Don't want to double post, but on an unrelated note, apparently Gabby fired her head coach???

i wanna say Simone, Laurie and Aly are a lock unless something drastic happens at trials. then i would think it would be choosing two girls out of three from Gabby, Madison and Maggie.

I was not aware there is a non-traveling alternate. What is the point of that?
