see this is where i question myself when it comes to gofundme. i get that she was bullied and i know how brutal high school can be, but ehh i dont get the fact that someone feels like they should get or try and get a free prom dress just because they were bullied by people. sorry.

she was trying to fundraise for a prom dress before the bullies came out. her original plan was to sell her junior prom dress and use that money + gofundme for a new one.

don't we call that fraud?
Yes. So I inherently question and second guess every single gofundme ever. It's Scam City and I don't care how "legit" something is, I still would never donate via that platform.

The reasons these types of things don't exist on kickstarter is because with that particular platform it's all or nothing. Indiegogo has two options, but the percentage they take on "flexible" payment is wicked high (like 9% or so).

I'm considering going on a mission trip to Haiti this January and I have to raise $1,000 for the orphanage in addition to my flights from DC to Haiti. I wish there were some way to combine Kickstarter's perks ("Donate $100 and I will make you a cake!") with GoFundMe's "you get the money people give you even if it's not your goal."

I used godundme to raise money for a medical device that wasn't covered by insurance. I only raised about 350 out of the 1840 I needed for the start up costs but it definitely helped and was the easiest way to fundraise and ask friends/family for help with the cost.

Indiegogo's flexible plan is like that. You can combine perks with 'getting money without the goal amount.' Just read the fine print on all of them. Also check out 'Seed and Spark.' There was a roundup of all these types of platforms out there- and some are specifically charity-oriented.

I used gofundme for my second mission trip to Jamaica and it was a lot easier for my family and family friends who don't live near me to donate, and everyone who donated I brought back something small (like a keychain or a bracelet made by the people at JDV where my mission trip was) and sent it to them along with a thank you letter after the trip... The people who donated a lot to me I bought them something bigger like a shirt from JDV or this coffee from Jamaica that is apparently amazing (I don't drink coffee so I have no idea.) I also did the same thing the first time but I didn't use go fund me and it really stressed me out keeping up with all of the checks and cash.

I almost feel bad for WV basketball. This is actually so embarrassing for them.

ETA: that WV player that said Kentucky would be 36-1 after the game is going to be eating his words for a while..
I'm so sad right now, that was so hard to watch. I know my boys are better than that and a lot of people didn't think we'd make it this far so I guess I can't be too upset.

Hey guys I need some help! This afternoon I have a phone call set up with an employee of the NBA just to ask him questions about his job and stuff because I'm a sport management major and interested in learning more. So far I have:
What does your job entail?
Are there internship opportunities?

I want to ask more but I'm just not sure what!

What path did you take to get to this point in your career?

What's your favorite part of the job? Least favorite?

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to get into sports management? Or something like: If you could tell your college self one thing, what would it be?

Hope those help!

What does a typical day look like for you?

How do you balance work and your social life?

Ask him why he wanted to go into the field, what particular course of action did they take to get into the field----their education, their internships, their networking, did they get promoted or hired into the position they're in, downside, upside to the field

Have you worked during a playoff / championship season? How was that different than the main season? Are there incentives or rewards for you based on the outcome?

Do you travel with the team?

Lots of great suggestions from earlier.

What is the life style like of your position? (Like do they have to travel a lot, deal with press/how often/how much, is that position all work and no play, etc)

What do you think are the top 3 personal skills someone needs to be successful in that career path?

What are some ways you've seen people fail/succeed at their job that is specific to that career path?

How is the job security? How are the job outlooks?
