All-Star Cheerleading Worlds 2015 - Day 3 (monday)

I was an exercise science major in college and I have to wonder if all of these injuries had to do with overtraining. Yes, teams practice long and hard all year long. But, when it comes time for Worlds, coaches bump it up a notch and some have their teams practicing everyday, or if not everyday then for 4 or 5+ hours at a time. I understand that their intentions are good because they want their team to do well, but I also know from school that there needs to be a certain amount of recovery time between exercising and working the same muscle groups over and over. Overtraining is a bit more serious than most people understand. I know some of the injuries this weekend were freak accidents, but I for sure think a few of them had to do with overtraining and I hope coaches, gym owners, and athletes can learn from this.
Regarding overtraining, I definitely agree with you on that. Honestly by worlds time I understand upping the intensity a little bit. But I'm of the opinion that if you have been at a certain level all year, all the extra repetition won't do much for you at this point. Drill stunts and stuff still, yes. But don't add pressure to the kids with all the extra intensity. I feel like it would help to mentally relax them a bit and boost confidence if you keep the same mindset with a moderate intensity levels rather than suddenly making their lives cheer or die every day you know? Just my personal thoughts.

Totally agree with you on the whole mental aspect thing, and I see your point on the fact that the extra repetition at times won't do much for you. But, a lot of teams change their routine to make it harder come Worlds time, where they are adding new skills they haven't competed all year long. I think that is where the overtraining comes into play because they are drilling these skills that they haven't had as much time to practice, so that they're perfect for Worlds. This doesn't apply to every team, just some.

I think Vizion proves that judges don't score less by having a boy flyers. Look their stunt sequence, male flyer. Sooo excited for them taking home the silver!!! Congrats Vizion.

Wow - that was a very entertaining and well executed routine. I loved the dance! Did that one girl get hurt? She was limping off w/ others helping her?

I didn't see anything posted about an injury from Vizion but possibly? I hope she's okay!

Wow I just caught up on this thread after going to sleep after io5 awards last night. So much drama. We should get a dead horse rating because the number of posts I read going over the same point was ridiculous.

On a good note, happy that c5, g-dubs and nfinity won gold! Just watched the 20/20 video and I can't believe I missed this on the feed, that routine was amazing, their reaction to getting 2nd was the best.

ETA - Found a video of wildcats finals in case anyone was still looking

YES for Vizion video finally! I can't get over how amazing this must be for them!

I noticed a lot of that this weekend too. The "I got hurt or tweaked something during the routine and the adrenaline kept me going, but now it's over and I can't even walk off" look.

x2! Both of my girls are World Champions! I am still in shock. I honestly don't have words. I know I did the early celebration thing and I feel horrible about it but I can't even put in to words what it was like to see your kids and their teammates put it all out on the mat and move up from 8th place. My oldest is a senior so to see her and her other teammates be called out as World Champions is just a dream come true for them!!

Late pass but I had no idea your kids were on C5! I guess that's why you always shimmied my "look at C5!" posts? I hadn't been super familiar with ECE teams, but somewhere around mid-season, C5 made me really start taking notice (after NCA in particular.)

Congrats!

Congratulations! I didn't know your daughters were on C5! Such a great representation of the Northeast!

Now just imagine if Wildcats hadn't contested**** their way into finals, Australia would have actually globed! I heard they actually threatened to not bring any of their teams back to Worlds ever again if they didn't get in. SMH

So you're really going to say, as a coach, that if you were wrongly scored at the biggest competition of your season and it was going to keep you out of finals that you wouldn't contest your score?(which by the way, 3 of the 4 us teams that went to finals did)

ETA: also I HIGHLY doubt the coaches, one of whom is an owner of CA, would threaten that.
