@luv2cheer92, I read your message and unfortnately, the beloved flag you remembered flying all over Virginia have been used to instill racial hatred and killings toward a group...This is similar to the swastika, which before Hitler represented "well being and good fortune and was highly represented in the Hindu and other Europeans nation as a good symbol, but the Nazis took a positive symbol and made it into a symbol of hatred, try to explain to a Jewish person that swastika that was placed all over your town is a good thing...You know what? I do not see anybody trying to tell Jews to forget about the Holocaust and lets compromise and allow us to place a swastika anywhere... But it behooves me why it is okay to ask African-Americans, who have been victims of this confederate flag, a symbol of hatred to compromise in where it should be flown...Can you explain how this is different?
I don't believe I ever said it was right? I'm confused...

She didn't say that the confederate flag was "beloved" but rather stated that she didn't want to get into her views. Which everyone should respect.

I hate that the deaths of those 9 people turned into a national debate on the confederate flag. I've said over and over since I was a little girl that the confederate flag has no place on our state house grounds. But the end of the day that flag didn't kill those people. A racist did. Is the confederate flag the widely accepted symbol of racism? For me certainly yes, but for everyone else the h-ll if I know.

A confederate flag will NEVER hurt me the way that racist terrorist did and while taking it down is more than certainly the right thing to do it will never fix the racism in this state.

The main argument in support of the Confederate flag seems to be that it stands for heritage, Southern culture and the bravery of Confederate soldiers. Which I could maybe understand, if that same flag hadn't also been used as a symbol of white supremacy, Jim Crow laws, and racial violence.

I say take the SC one down. It doesn't belong on a public building. If people want to fly it in private, then even though I don't support it, that's their choice.

After spending the last 9 days in South Carolina, I'm inclined to take back almost everything I said in that thread we had about race awhile back.

I'm convinced South Carolina is at least in the top 5 most racist places in America. This was the most uncomfortable and disturbed I've felt in a very long time. I felt like I had traveled back in time about 50-100 years.

Never thought I'd be so happy to be back in Chicago, where I can just have dinner with my black friend like it's 2015.[emoji22]

On a completely unrelated note, an update on the trophies: trophies are a very annoying thing to travel with, but we got them home. One needs minor repairs, but they are considered a carry-on item, in case anyone ever needs to know.

ughhh. so i rent and pay for a condo and their stupid fees that my parents have owned for 10 plus years, that i no longer live in (i live with my fiance in his house obvi) we are keeping it for my parents sake because they are retiring in a year so my parents and i basically split the cost of the place.
well now they put a lovely locked gate around the pool that me and my boyfriend would love to use since we do not have one of our own. we went over to get a key for it and were rudely told we werent allowed to have one since we no longer live in it, even though the landlord is fully aware of who i am since i still go over there once a month to pay the stupid bills (to add to this i pay 140 a month for landscaping which is a completely rip off since i barely have a yard to begin with). she then proceeded to tell me the single key would cost $50 bucks  and then told us if we lost it we would be revoked of pool privileges. she also made us aware in order to even get the dumb key that she would have to talk to my dad since she was unsure if we actually were residents of the neighborhood........:banghead: im 27 years old and this woman decides to treat me like a 5 year old and basically tells me she needs daddy's permission for me to use the pool.
i told my boyfriend to just buy a big blow up pool and put it in the backyard. i cant believe how much of a rip off living in apartments can be these days.

officially planned a road trip with my best friend from home to go visit our other best friend from home at her college (and the beach!) since we haven't all seen each other since december

If you wanna see grown men cry bring them to Inside Out. So many crying dads and male college students leaving the theater of a children's movie. A really sophisticated children's movie.

Other than that it was spectacular and so was the new short, Lava, before the movie :) Pixar is just amazing.
It was excellent. Whoever dreamt up that idea is a genius. Pixar never fails to disappoint (but let's forget Cars 2 happened).

Never heard of it. What's the story line or will that give away too much?

Does the landlord have Alzheimer's?

I've heard numerous times that a confederate flag or even a swastika, has never killed anyone, but I contend that symbols of hatred and oppression have a greater impact than 1 racist committing a crime... Symbols for an organization are very powerful and leaves a great impact on the mind, for example, I never been introduced to a racist directly, but if I see a confederate flag or swastika on that person property or possession, I will remove myself from that person, why?

It's about the emotions inside the head of an 11 year old girl. She moves from the Midwest to San Francisco so it kind of goes through all the normal emotions a child would have about that. It sounds lame but it's super brilliant. And the core message it sends to kids is so important. (Core message: it's perfectly normal to feel every emotion and not be happy 100% of the time and sometimes things can happen if you don't deal with your negative emotions and try to push them away.) Though, I don't think kids would comprehend that message to the fullest, so it's also a reminder to parents that kids can feel sad too and they shouldn't be told to be happy all the time. This is why I think many parents in the theater were crying at the end. Also, the girl plays and loves hockey, which I think you'd like ;) it was great to see a girl doing something other than a stereotypical activity like dance or cheer or soccer or something.

Anyways, Pixar, once again, succeeded in making a child's film that adults love and are moved by too. I don't know how they do it. And you can tell they REALLY did their research on the human psych while creating the film because there's so many nuances to how the brain works with memory and feelings and it's positively astonishing how much adult content (as in complex ideas) they put into a children's movie.
