Y'all are speaking my language up in here,

If you go to jail you could get a free education :) :) :) :) :) no money out of your pocket, only out of the taxpayers pockets :) :) :) :) the same taxpayers who cant pay for their own college :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I can't tell you how much this pisses me off. Criminal - you go to college for free! Illegal - you go to college for free! High honor, gold scholar, 4 year varsity, several academic awards, extra cirricular class officer child of a working middle class stiff born snd raised in America - not a dime in financial aid. How does any of that make sense??

"You are only responsible for being honest, not for someone else's reaction to your honesty."

It ticks me off so much. Neither of my parents went to college and they've worked their butts off to get where they are. Yet we get no help in paying. Sorry I'm not gonna have my parents choose between saving for retirement or paying for my school. Which even if they werent saving for retirement they wouldn't be able to pay for it without taking out loans.

I so so soooooooo very badly want this Patrick Kane thing to not be true.

I literally just had a conversation last week at work about how funny the Blackhawks guys all are because they're always in the news but it's always dumb stuff like singing bad karaoke. We were talking about how the NFL and the NBA always have all these criminals and hockey players are just like, "Do you have any more alcohol?"

Guess I spoke too soon. Kaner is literally life here. I need this to not be true.

I definitely agree with this @Eyes On The Prize and there was a time that criminals were given vocational training only and when they got out of prison, help with finding work. I agree with vocational training, which most institutions have hired people to help with rehabilitation, but college degrees and in some cases law degrees, no way! Unfortunately, many of the inmates coming out of prison must become entrepreneurs because it is hard for them to find honest work and join the workforce, which contribute to high levels of recidivism.

Don't look at the stats of MMA fighters; the number of criminals there are ridiculously high compared to the regular population of males in the same age range and to NFL players.

I think I'm on the same level of "this is absolute absurdity and wtf are politicians thinking" as you. Lol don't help the law abiding citizen, help the criminal. Okkkkkkkk. Like I'm laughing but I'm screaming and crying and contemplating murder (do they have masters programs in jail? I'm asking for a friend.)

It's such a backwards system. I really can't start my rant because I will literally never stop. Education is the #1 thing I am most thankful for in life, above my health, above my privileges, above all the rainbows and flowers, and the fact that it isn't available to everyone is the most f*cked up thing in the entire universe. You wanna fix your society and change the world, politicians? You need to start with educating your people. Education should be a right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. And I mean in every walk of life.

There is a documentary on Netflix about what some children in other parts of the world have to go through just to get to school everyday. Just so they can learn to read, write, and do simple math. It breaks my heart at how fortunate we are here in the first world countries to have the resources we do. But it also breaks my heart knowing how alike we are to those same third world countries where parents make personal and financial sacrifices to send their kids to school so their children can have a shot at a better life than the ones they did. It's amazing how global of an issue this is.

I could rant on and on about how screwed up the prison system is. But at the same time there are a lot of people sitting in prison who don't deserve to be there in the first place. The wrongly accused are already punished enough, so I'm kinda 50/50 on the whole free education thing.

RIGHT!? I'm shocked. It's Patrick Kane! He's a goofball who takes his shirt off in limos and gets wasted at Stanley Cup celebrations! Not a scary rapist!

I texted my Buffalo-area sports writer friend basically asking "Wtf?" and "Is this credible?"--and he said it's not looking good for him.

(FWIW, you're not entirely wrong--it's pretty well documented that the NHL has extremely low crime rates compared to the other Big 4 sports.)

On a happier Blackhawks note, Trevor van Riemsdyk is the cutest thing ever: NHL - Trevor van Riemsdyk didn't give up on his dream and ended up with a Stanley Cup. Root for him in the interim!

I literally cannot deal. You know we love our Hawks. And EVERYONE here loves Kaner! He's just a baby. Like having a stereotypical frat boy as the face of our city. But it's usually funny stuff. This is not funny.

I just don't know... I'm still holding out hope that it is just not true, but really now that it's out he'll have that label forever. And yes, I've seen a few things that indicate that it's not good. Especially that they expect him to "turn himself in as early as tomorrow"

Ugh.

This is the first I've heard of this, but makes me wonder: Have any other cities ever hosted both the Summer and the Winter Olympics?

My sources (nbc via google search) say Beijing is the first city to do so.

But I think there's been a few countries who've hosted both. Japan and South Korea have/will have both and those are teeny countries. Also, I didn't know that Rio is the first time the games are going to South America, that's so exciting!

Cool! Crazy how the Olympics have been around so long and are just now being hosted by South America. That makes me happy! I knew the U.S. had hosted both summer and winter, but I couldn't think of it ever being in the same city.
