Everyone's best bet is to take the DART IMO, its safe (police are always on board), reliable, runs on time, and you won't have to worry about getting "overcharged" by a cab.

And, don't judge....but I didn't know Dallas had cabs or taxis, and I've lived here for 22 years.. I've always taken the DART or driven myself into Dallas.
Is there room for luggage if we take it from the airport?

Hey hey hey, we deal with heat not ice ;) don't make fun :p
Yeah I know., heat would have been preferable. My first, and likely only, trip to NCA Dallas should be called Cheer Dad's Big Adventure and included an overnight car trip from Houston to Dallas into an ice storm. Pretty sure I was nominated for crazy parent of the weekend.

Ok so I have to ask this... I know this past February in Dallas was crazy weather but for those who have attended Dallas NCA frequently in the past let's say 2-5 years has the weather always been this nuts or is it just a once in a while thing...
I say this because I'm in jersey and Mother Nature has her mood swings but it's not like a consistent thing. We have gone a few winters with minimal snow and no real blizzards (of course I think this year was the first fake blizzard-thanks weather man).... Then every couple years it's like BOOM!!! Here's some snow storms for ya!! Lol
3 years ago wasn't bad. A little chilly but no rain/snow. 2 years ago was cold with some rain/freezing rain. Last year was awful!

There really wasn't too much accumulation as far as snow/ice go. The problem is that Dallas (like Atlanta) doesn't have the snow removal equipment, salt, emergency plans in place when this does happen. Unfortunately, last year was just a crazy situation. Two years ago (2014) was GORGEOUS on Friday (80) and by Sunday (30s) which was precipitated by a snowstorm that traveled across the US. In 2014 a TON of people got stuck in Dallas because the East Coast was shut down after the storm traveled through the midsection of the country. I remember this, because I was one of the lucky ones who got out of Dallas on Monday and raced to get back home before the storm arrived. I am thinking we are all due a gorgeous weekend and that is what I am hoping for :)

Yes and they turned the meter off the second they stopped and then told you a different price than you were just looking at.
Yes...Luckily, after living in the DC area for many years (and traveling extensively) I have NO issues with letting cab drivers know that I will not be paying their crazy fees.

Bit of advice coming from a northern boy that has driven in all kinds of weather. If you are there and they are calling for ice, don't laugh and ask yourself how bad can the driving be? It is like driving in nothing we have seen up north. With that said, I will still laugh when they shut down the city for a dusting of snow or a little bit of ice. Lol

....said every Northerner (including us), until they sat or watched 20 hours of gridlock in Atlanta during the snowpocalypse. Southern winter entertainment is watching all of us once Northerners drive on untreated and unplowed roads with all of the Southerners that got caught in it. Eight city snow plows and eight salt trucks=no joke, this northern girl now keeps her butt at home.

The past two years (last year especially) have had winter weather on NCA weekend. I don't remember having any problems the 8 or so years before that. This year, with El Nino, they're calling for a colder, wetter winter with likely snow/ice in mid to late February.

If you take the Dart from any downtown hotel remember only blue or red will take you to the convention center. Any other color will take you places you don't want to go and it can be very scary and you could be in for a long cold wait.

I rented a car for NCA this year, it was no more than $80-$90 for my entire stay. I didn't need it for the comp, because I was only 6 blocks from the convention center. We basically ice skated down the sidewalk the first morning. The rental car was much more cost effective than getting cabs. I also was able to avoid the long ride form Love field to the hotel that some endured. I put on waze and it took me back roads from the airport to hotel. When I checked in to get the car, they said do you want to upgrade to an SUV because of the weather, I just laughed and said, no, I'm from Maryland where we actually have a winter and I can handle a small front wheel drive car in the small amount of slush that had accumulated at that point.

I've told this story on here before... but two years ago when the weather iced everything up, I had to call my cousin whom I was meeting for dinner as I was leaving the convention center so she could tell me how to de-ice my windshield. I had never driven in those conditions before!!!

Yikes. That seems awful!

Like someone else has stated, we're due for a wetter and colder winter in mid-late February. We really don't have a great "snow" system, like plows, because it ices.....not snow! We have sand trucks, which I think is so strange that everywhere else uses salt lol :p

LOL, well if you aren't used to it I can see it being a problem. I just had to chuckle when the rental car guy offered me 4WD to navigate around. Here's hoping to a much warmer NCA next year. I live in the cold, but don't like it so I look forward to getting away where it's a little warmer (or alot)

I feel your pain! Last winter here when it iced really bad I had to go into work and forgot to let my car defrost so the ice would melt. My dad ended up driving me lol lesson learned!
