Smoed technically did not compete though they were only doing exibition and treating just like a showcase. They weren' even going to perform until the jamz comp. For the record, why is it only a problem when a cali team decides to mark part of a routine?
actually it has been a discussion with other showcases this season (maybe CEA - I can't remember)

Agreed! I don't want to see it at competition.

If the one or two kids injured want to mark it fine, but the whole team shouldn't be marking jumps.

I know last year our level 5 had a competition, and one of the girls had rolled or twisted her ankle the day of. She could walk on it but it was heavily taped.
She marked her jumps and standing tumbling, they didn't replace her. She just went to her spot and marked it the whole way through. She just did stunts. I was ok with this because they didn't want to push the girl to injure herself more. However there are no reasons others couldn't do theirs. And honestly our team would of won even if the whole team decided not to jump so it wasn't a reason of that but I don't want to see them not doing certain parts at a comp.

Also at another comp one of the boys on that team said he burned himself in the privates area. I think they said making ramen and he spilled it on him and I guess didn't have pants on? Idk they let him mark stuff for a comp because he said it was too painful to do it. Lol

lol @ the routine being the same. i wonder if people even bothered to watch the past routines before or after they watched the current one or if theyre just going by their hazy memory?

thanks for blocking the shot, awesomeness tv guy.

I believe people are also talking about GW's who also marked jumps yesterday. But, it's been discussed quite a bit before, it's FAR from just Cali...

It was first discussed during cali showcase and I undserstand since it was the first showcase we saw, but after that it was just sort of mentioned, until now that it seems to be a problem again. Frankly, i dont know why people care so much about jumps. Personally, i find it to be the most boring part of a routine.

since you're basically an SM for your beloved smoed, i decided to watch again and see if they really were similar if i was going by my "hazy memory" and compare it to worlds 2015 so here we go:

toes fulls, handspring fulls towards the corners (whatever, not a big deal, most would have this as their opening anyway)
exact same formation for their coed stunts (except last year and the year before was ball up stretch, this was ball-ish up to prep, so you got me there, different ;))
exact same formation for elite stunts, to do a slightly upgraded stunt of a stunt they did at the beginning of last year, double around from double base this year vs double around from extension, tick tock to lib, pull same scorpion with same little point thing double down. they did switch and do their baskets after their stunts this year instead of before. wow so different
although they marked their jumps, obviously EXACT SAME jumps of clap to the front, turn to the back, toe, hurdle, toe, toe, full/tuck.
similar tumbling section but I'm not even gonna touch on that.
start off pyramid with a little inversion in the middle (but its two feet now instead of one), and the little handstand up thing they've done forever.

not even gonna get into choreo cause its excessive.. kick stretch roll thing, booty shake, point to a side, etc etc etc etc

to be clear, i always liked smoed before they went all crazy and became conceited and decided sportsmanship didnt apply to them. but just wanted to do this to make you realize that people have these opinions for a reason. you don't have to agree with them, but you don't have to shut them out either. and maybe don't take opinions of a team you have no affiliation with whatsoever (or so you say ;)) so personally and realize people say this every single year about smoed, orange, senior elite and a million other teams.

Speaking from my CP's experience, the goal is to have your best performances when it matters most and marking anything at any point during the season could be done for a number of reasons. I'd much rather have a team mark something than risk injury, especially at a showcase or at a competition where the team is unopposed, whether it is in September or April. I'll gladly pay the admission fee and see half a routine than end up with a kid being sent to the emergency room. CP's showcase is late in the season and they marked and/or paused between sections. They stayed healthy and hit when it mattered, so this year if they want to forward roll all over the mat I'm good with it.

Thank you for saying this because AMEN. To add to the conversation, with level 5 teams (all teams really but especially level 5), I think it is fine to be marking something if it saves energy for something else. There are times during the season where the safety of the athletes outweighs going full out. It is unlikely that kids are conditioned enough to be safely hitting their routine full out for competition right now, especially teams that have difficult skills. For the top contending teams, like smoed, not only do the athletes have a difficult routine, they have a lot of pressure that can be tough to manage. If letting them mark jumps or tumbling will allow them to hit their stunts and get the "I'm on a team that people have high expectations for" jitters out of the way, let them. Having to do a full routine on top of jitters can be dangerous. Marking parts of the routine lets them concentrate and safely perform the sections that would be the most affected by jitters (stunts IMO). Jumps and tumbling are individual skills that an athlete can work on by themselves. They themselves control if that skill hits. Stunts are a group effort so it makes sense why jumps or tumbling would be marked.

on behalf of smoed, i would like to apologize for putting out the "same ol' routine" year after year after year. i would also like to apologize for getting the same old color of medal year after year after year.

Yes! On some level, I'm not sure I understand doing this with showcases either.

If yours is an early one (late August or early September) then maybe.

But why are you marking stuff at a (example) November showcase when you are going to be COMPETING this routine like next week? Or marking at a comp?

If you're marking at a comp, you just made your parents pay and drive basically for a showcase.

I'm not sure if someone has already said this but Smoed was exhibitioning yesterday. That's also why they were in tanks and shorts.

You should totally talk to your boss about the ATV blocking the shot. [emoji23]

That makes sense! Thanks.

And as to the "everything is the same" comment, there are limited ways with which to get people into and out of the air. And you do not need to change things that are not broken!

I thought they looked really good.
But who cares about Smoed when my cp's team was grand champs? :cheering:
