Thanks for sharing my post. I totally agree with you that the app is not for everyone. I also agree with the design critique as well :).
In fairness, he can certainly be percieved as snarky or rude sometimes. I think alot of times in his haste to respond quickly to the hundreds of people providing him info, he can certainly come off that way. He does have a passion for what he is providing the Cheer community though. That future blog post may be reserved for a later date.

I am excited about the future of this platform. Many people think CU's reporting is inaccurate. People need to remember he is not reporting actual judges comments or scores, only what he is viewing and sees at that time. No one should ever take the observations to the bank as gospel( I think that gets lost sometimes). It is only CU's opinion and it typically does not exactly mirror the score sheets. He is normally overly critical IMO which I believe is good for the sport.
I would agree with you about the rudeness coming from posting quickly if he didn't already have a rep for being extremely rude on here long before cheer updates was a thing. I mean his name was "meanj" for heaven sakes.

Personally not a fan of someone charging for info. And as much as he does good things for the sport. ...let's face it. He has his favorites.
Maybe I'm just cheap but I'll just wait to see results and Info all over social media

Is he playing favorites or just promoting the gyms that pay him? Not sure a lot of people know that he gets paid directly from certain gyms.

I definitely wouldn't pay for an app that doesn't offer much more than what anybody can find for free.

On another note though, good for him. He's making a career for himself out of something he loves. Watch cheerleading, go to all the big awesome events, and post about it? Wish I had thought of it!

I applaud him for this. Before all this happened we would get posts on boards about scores and results at competitions that were all the way wrong. People would post (obviously) in favor of their own program or favorites, say how they were cheated, etc. Most of the arguments revolved around competition results and the majority of those from false our inaccurate info posted. He like many of us were frustrated with the intentional misinformation.

He figured a way (with some help and investors I am sure) to become a solid source for information. Now he is supported by the industry to the extent that he can go to any event or gym he chooses for little to no cost, gets people to pay him to promote their brand, gets first looks at uniforms, routines, etc. Kudos to him for that.

Although he still has his reputation as being meanj he has reformed a whole lot of that persona to become more a corporate citizen of this industry. He is earning many dollars from this industry and the reform was needed to make that money. But underneath it all is the same person.

ETA. While I consider him a friend, it is more at a distance and when/if I see him. My anti industry stands has definitely made it hard for some people to associate with me and I get that.

I knew I recognized the twitter handle :p FWIW, I like the idea of the app. And I understand why people like him.

But I can't get behind someone like him. And I can't get behind someone charging for free information - even if it's a one time thing. (And the design, I could write a 4 page critique. But I design for a living so i think its just extra bad because of my background.) I don't value his opinions or critiques. And I think the way he handles his "business" is sketchy/corrupt af. I don't think his business is that innovative of an idea. Fierceboard has been doing this for years - the only thing he did was find a way to capatalize on it by moving it to twitter where its more accessible and easily shareable for the masses.

To his credit, most successful businesses aren't super innovative.

When a poor kid asks him what is, admittedly, maybe a dumb question and he comes back with a rude response, I cringe.

How does he earn a living doing this? EPs pay him to attend? Am I missing something here?
My guess is that gyms and EPs pay him to go to them and tweet results/comments/photos (this applies to uniform reveals as well). He gets paid, they get visibility.
