IMO, it's not the US. Bars are just hard. Yes, it's our weak spot but everyone struggles. When you look at top ten scores in competition of this season, the US is doing great comparatively as we have three athletes in the top:

1 Ashton Locklear United States U.S. Classic 15.850
2 Fan Yilin China Chinese Champs EF 15.734
3 Madison Kocian United States WOGA Classic 15.700
4 Daria Spiridonova Russia DTB Team QF 15.650
Gabby Douglas United States U.S. Classic 15.650
6 Natalia Kapitonova Russia Russian Champs QF 15.567
7 Shang Chunsong China Chinese Champs QF 15.500
Becky Downie Great Britain Euros EF 15.500
Sophie Scheder Germany German Champs AA 15.500
10 Elisabeth Seitz Germany DTB Team TF 15.450

That's a great perspective. I had never looked at it like that before. But you're right. The strength required plus the attention to execution makes it an intense event. When I did rugrat gymnastics, it was definitely my least favorite.

Another question, why is Skinner the least liked gymnast on the gymternet? I don't follow the chalkbucket forums. @disneydance

My prediction-

1st - Sam Mikulak
2nd- Jake Dalton
3rd- John Orozco
4th- Donnell Whittenburg
5th- Alex Naddour

Alternates- Danell Leyva, Chris Brooks

Internally cried along with John Orozco

I'm pleased with the team. I was rooting for Donnell Whittenburg and Danell Leyva though

I correctly guessed 4 out of the 5 people on the men's team, so I have that going for me.

Simone and MyKayla seemed quite chummy during night one, so I wouldn't exactly believe everything the gymternet says.

I'm so happy for orozco. I feel bad for Leyva and Whittenburg though. I'm pretty excited about the men's team.

Hmmmm... I didn't have Chris Brooks in my team prediction but consistency paid off - 24/24 hit routines.

Really though, it definitely could have gone Leyva, Whittenburg, Orozco or Naddour.... of course, we won't know until Rio whether this was the best competition, but looking at the team they'll probably have Naddour potentially do both vault and floor (very nervous for this) on top of his pommels routine.

ETA: 2 hours later, I just realise I'm more troubled(than I'd like to admit) by the men's team selection. I guess that's what happens when you're too emotionally invested.

I believe all 5 of them deserved a spot on the team... but it doesn't sting any less knowing Whittenburg and Leyva, who have consistently been contributing medals on the international stage for team U.S.A. in this quad, didn't make the team.

I know priority is always to send the strongest combination for the team competition... but I can't help but wonder, with G.B., China, Japan and Russia whether U.S.A. should have just gone with event specialist to bring the most hardware back. I'm not saying they don't have a chance for a team medal, but it's honestly going to be so difficult.

ETA 2.0: Also, I really disliked how the selection committee were already up and discussing the next step before Whittenburg, Leyva, Mikulak etc. even competed on their last apparatus.

JOHN OROZCO R U KIDDING I haven't cried that hard in a long time. I am so so so happy for him.

But absolutely gutted for Donnell and Danell. Wow. This was so up in the air for me.

I don't like how the media keeps harping him about his mother though. I think once it's been established and understood what has happened, there's no need to bring it up every single time.

I honestly can not believe Donnell wasn't picked! :(

Rooting for Biles, Douglas, Raisman, Hernandez, Nichols/ Locklear to make the Olympic team tonight!

I didn't think the women's were announced until after trials? Are they announcing it tonight?

Nope - after trials which aren't until July 8-10 in San Jose. AA winner of trials guaranteed a spot (Simone) and the rest will be decided after the trials end by the committee.

That's what I thought, I was confused there for a second.
