My point dancer Paige, is an amazing performer, but is also an all around great athlete. She stands out because she is beautiful, and works it out... no matter what. lol
In Indy at Jamfest she took an elbow to the check bone, and needless to say her face was covered in blood by the dance. It may sound gross ( and it was) but I must say it was the most amazing performance. She went crazy, and sold it. We were so amazed by her.

this might seem a little weird, but do u have a video of your team performing, prefereably one where you can see her workin it? i ask only because i struggle to get the girls i coach to show attitude and fierceness when they dance, but they seem to have a whole lot of it when they arent cheering, so i want to show them what being a great dancer is all about. they thought the cali point dancer looked strange, they are strange little girls....

Do people 'try out' to be point dancer? Do coaches decide at tryouts? Always wondered..

We had Luke Johnson do our routine and I think he picked the person that pissed him off the least by butchering his choreo the least during the learning days prior to learning the dance lol...yeah needless to say after he taught us motions I was in the back of the dance haha

It has to look like they are having the time of their life! Really knowing how to work the crowd and the judges is important. I had a girl on my Senior 3 a looooong time ago who broke her nose in warmups, and went out on the floor with tampons up her nose and tape across the bottom. She was center point for the whole dance, and she turned it out, even though she looked beyond ridiculous lol

We had to pick a new Point Dancer and i was kinda worried because no one really stood out. There are a lot of good dancers on the Team but most of them lack attitude/fierceness .One of my girls backspots the whole Routine, isn't a Tumbler and is pretty tall, but she's the only one who really works it out when it comes to big performance and stuff, so for the first time ever she's going to be point dancer and after practise tonight i think i made the right choice :)
I just wasn't sure before because she is pretty tall and i was wondering if that would be a problem , but i guess it isn't :)

If you're not tearin' it up, go to the back.
If you're not hitting the motions, go to the back.
If you're not giving facials, move aside.

Everyone on my team knows how to dance, no doubt. So, it's hard for my coach to pick someone. It usually comes down to who's closets to the front before the dance, making it a smoother transition. But usually throughout the dance, the formations are constantly changing.

WORK THE DANCE!!

Yes! I have a similar problem on my team... there are kids who are all around good everywhere, but no real standouts. We just ended up keeping the same center as last year, because she does a good job there. When we got our choreography, I took a chance and put 2 of my non-tumbling backspots as the spots next to centerpoint. They def work it:) They spend the whole routine in the back for everything, I like it that they can offer more than just a stunt score!

Hmm, I love when the point is actually someone you barely noticed was on the floor before, but then it gets to dance and you're like WOAH. But really, I think I also like if the point in a way bigs up the rest of the team, like I don't want to be totally focussed on this fierce Girl while everyone else who are also great dancers are stuck doing high vs ya know?

Realistically I think that the point dancer should be someone that looks athletically fit and is an asset rather than a distraction.
