erica on Pittsburgh Superstars Large Senior :) shes soooo tall, shes absolutely GORGEOUS in the air.

& I love scorpions that aren't completely straight, like hers!

its a scorp no matter what...
i have a straight leg and i pull it when the rest of my team pulls scorps, im doing the same body position. its just a flexibility difference.
so if its bent its a scorp, if its straight its a spike/pencil/straight leg but still a scorp.

While all these pics are very impressive and these kids are obviously very flexible, does anyone stop and think about the damage they could possibly be doing to their spines, joints and ligaments as they grow and get older? I would love to hear from PT's and older cheerleaders that used to be this flexible and are now either still this flexible or have developed damage from stretching so much over the years.

I don't mean any disrespect or to take away any of the impressiveness of these kids. I just would hate for them to have back issues or hip pain when they are older because of all this stretching when they were younger.

I guess rythmic gymnasts do a lot of stretching that is similar and I have heard of them damaging themselves however I think with proper conditioning to ensure the muscles are strong enough to cope with taking the stretch to that level the risk of damage would be minimised.

I have a question. What do you guys thinks looks better, when in a straight leg scorp if the flyer holds her ankle/shin or if she holds her foot. My arms and legs are the length where I can pull one holding my foot. But what do you guys think looks better in the air? I'm trying to perfect my "scorp needle"

Foot. Most of the time when the flyer holds the ankle, their toe kinda...veers off and doesn't keep the pretty line a scorp should have.

this is no where near the flexibility that these girls have but it is a beautiful picture so I wanted to share...
(first time posting a pic... I hope it works!!!)
