All-Star When Do You "have" A Skill?

I can throw a toe toe tuck in my routine, but it happens to be the first skill I do. If I were asked to do it 2 minutes into the routine I would maybe bust. But I can land it every time where it is in the routine. Do I still "have" this skill? I bring this up kinda because I love teams that have that one cheerleader that throws a standing full in the last 8-count of a routine.
yeah, I would still say you would have this for sure! I feel so bad for the girls on shooting stars that end the routine with a double, and stuff like that. OMG i can barely stand up at the end of the routine. anyways, i would still say yes

i just gotta say that i love how much you're embracing the "new cheer dad"-ness of this all. your daughter will LOVE that when she's older! i can say that i love when my daddy takes me to competitions just us two and he asks all about my skills etc.

Very true comment. Have heard more than one CP comment they wish their "daddy's" were more involved in their cheerleaading world.

for me, i say you have a skill when you compete it and dont get a deduction for it.

I don't buy into that philosophy of you have a skill when it is performed in the routine. There are personal accomplishment and team accomplishment. Its a balance. Be proud of what you accomplish even if it never makes it into the routine.

It's not so much whether you get to throw it in a routine as much as whether you *could* throw it in a routine.

My cp can execute her tuck and land it some of the time, but even she admits that even if she was allowed to do it in a competition she wouldn't feel comfortable doing it just yet.

Just to echo a previous comment, I LOVE when that one girl/guy chucks that standing full at the end of their routine... there is something really special about kids being able to take center floor at the END of a routine and throw one of their hardest skills.

I wish more teams did that. I can't remember the last time I saw a level 4/5 team end w/ a group standing tuck or something... problem is I doubt it gives you that much of an advantage on the score sheet.

I know that some people will say they have a skill after the first time they've thrown a pass, but then when it comes to the next practice they won't throw it anymore.I agree with most people saying once you have been throwing your new pass consistently landing on your feet at all practices/comps. w/out deductions then you have mastered your new skill.

I think if you can do a skill you have it. It may not be consistent, but if I've landed a standing full before & get asked if I have a standing full, I'm not going to say I don't have it. I'm going to say its inconsistent or off & on. I'd say there are diff ways to "have" a skill. Everyone kinda has their own way of what they think having a skill means. People that have landed doubles for years can bust a double in a competition, but it doesn't mean they don't have it.

When you can throw it one different days without a spot. For example, 10 out of 10 is a good policy but it might just be one of those fluke really good tumbling days. If you can come in the next day and do it without a spot 10 out of 10 again, I'd say you "have" it.

The gym I used to cheer for a 2 day try outs a few years back. Whatever you landed day 1 had to land day 2 for it to count. I'd say that's consistency.

When you won't get nervous before throwing it in front of a crowd because you have confidence and it is guaranteed to stick!
