I'm a coach at a gym that was also considered for the show and we expressed MANY times that we would only be interested if they showed our program/kids in a positive light and we were assured over and over it would not be anything like T&T but more of a informational documentary. So with that being said I think both gyms got taken advantage of, which is sad because both are GREAT programs and would never set out to exploit their kids or families just for a little publicity.

If that was the case then you should have asked for it in writing which kinda goes with my previous comments about doing your research. Why would you just take their word? It's your business and reputation at stake. If it's too good to be true...it usually is! Like I said before, people just want fame and notoriety that they THINK goes along with being on television.

I was that 8 year old with zero body fat, so of COURSE I showed muscle when I had it- there wasn't anything in the way to keep it hidden! There is no polite way to say that I was just naturally REALLY underweight, and looking at pictures of my younger self I'm surprised people weren't trying to constantly shove food at me to make sure I wasn't malnourished. Then again my mother has a ridiculously high metabolism and I take after her..comes with her whole side of the family.

My little one is like that too...SHE HAS SIX PACK ABS AND IS A WINNER!!!! Kidding aside, we do have this long running joke about how I don't feed her so that she can stay skinny and in the air. When we tell new parents that, they look at us crazy but then we just tell them about the joke. It's funny because when mom's bring snacks, they always give my little one an extra if they have it and tell her 'hide it from your mom and eat it later' ;-D

we had our first mini team tryout last night.....CUTEST KIDS EVER. But i personally love the chunky kids more :p

I see what you're saying...but come on. What did you expect them to say? "No no no. We are looking to find the craziest mom at your gym and show the world the worst side of allstar cheerleading. We absolutely will NOT show you or your kids in a positive light!" They're TV producers--they will tell you anything they can to get you in front of their cameras. I'm sorry but to anyone that didn't see this coming...all I can say is REALLY?

Like I said I'm beyond happy we were not a part of the show! I'm not apart of either gym but I do know both programs very well and just felt there needed to be a voice standing up for them is all. Yes they subjected themselves to be viewed by all but people tearing apart an 8 year old just seems wrong. Sure, if they didn't want all the negative comments they shouldn't have done the show... Whatever but everyone on this board knows a mini cheerleader and I think we could all just be a little bit more respectful is all!

@KikiD22 IS a rocket scientist!:cool:

I suspected as much.:D

I don't think it's the 8 year old that they are trying to tear apart, it's the decisions being made on her behalf by the adults in her life.

YES! This whole situation is just completely clouded over by bad decision making by a LOT of people on behalf of these kids. Not just the TV show...some of the things the TV show highlighted, which I still think McKenzie's mom was more than happy to highlight (she seemed more than willing to use this as a forum to brag about her daughter, rather than a forum to show the world what allstar cheer is about). I just feel like kids this age aren't equipped to know that being on TV is not actually always the best thing. I'm sure if you asked my 8-year-old she would JUMP at the chance to be on a show like this. Fortunately for her she has responsible adults in her life making decisions that take her long term best interests into consideration, not just what will make her get the most attention.

ETA: OMG...what is a window licker??? LOL :D:eek::D

Oh I understand wherre they are coming from I was referring to earlier comments! Not trying to stir the pot I just know if the shoe was on the other foot and my gym had actually gone through with the show S1 and MWA would support us And have our back... Just supporting my fellow Ohio gyms :)

I don't agree with bashing an 8 yr old either and I don't think anyone on here are bashing the kids. My point is greed clouds one's judgment. I'm sure these gym owners were only looking out for what they thought was their best interest and the the cp's. I'm sure they have seen enough reality shows like this to get an idea of what goes on. I'm sure there was a contract of some sort that they had to read and sign and I'm sure it said in that contract that they have no say on what will or will not air. After all, who are the television professionals in this? The network or the gym owners? The networks have a pretty good idea of what will get good and bad ratings.

I've taken most things said on the thread with a grain of salt. It was to be expected that some negative would come with the great amount of positive we've received. Probably the thing that makes me most happy is the "exposure" of the hardships of a male cheerleader and how you can get through it. I hope to think Hayden and Nick have inspired some boys going through it or who want to try cheerleading. One of the gym's biggest mottos is "Everything that happens, happens for a reason." so I think whatever happens after the show, happens for a reason. I know at the end of the day, I (and everyone else at Step 1) still love them gym all the same.

And as far as the "winning's everything" topic. I can only tell you that's far from the truth. Believing in yourself, your fellow teammates and your gym as a whole is really what the gym is all about. Nothing but love for your family. Want an example? Check out our Senior 2's final performance from the last competition of the season. Just listen to how many times the phrase "I love you" is said throughout the routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2msjYUHs5DY&feature=channel_video_title The coaches said they didn't care what spot we placed, they were just happy they got to witness what we did out on the floor.

When will either cheer show reair? I've asked many times because I missed both episodes and lifetime doesn't show it online. Thanks

there is a post somewhere a couple pages back with a link to watch Jersey Cheer online. I'm sure the mini show will pop up there too. I don't know if they will be shown again on Lifetime or not. I think they were just seeing which one they should keep first. If they decide to keep one and continue on and do a season of it, I'd imagine they'll re-air the pilot then.

@kjstepone I agree with showing the hardships of boys in cheer. I hope if they keep either of the 2 cheer shows they delve into that more. And for the winning is everything part--at least they didn't do a good job of editing that! You could totally tell that they were cut off without the end of the sentece. Overall I think both gyms came out looking good as far as coaches and gym owners (despite the show's attempts to make Midwest Magic look like it was in some cracked out ghetto ). I ended up thinking both gyms seemd like pretty typical allstar gyms. They just sure did manage to find the moms that made cheer look bad. Every gym's got them...and we all hope and pray no TV show finds 'em.

I was thinking the same thing. We competed against them on March 12 & 13, and I'm fairly certain she was still on the Mini 1 team. I could be wrong though on that. However, if she is, I don't necessarily agree with her being on the Mini 1 team. I am all for moving kids up age/levels if they have the maturity and skills to handle it, but I'm not a fan of those same kids double-teaming on low level teams for an entire season (filling in for injuries or whatever is a different situation).

Thanks! I really wish I hadn't been right, because I think this show could have been a great opportunity to showcase the hardwork and commitment of these little athletes.

on march 12 and 13 kenzie didnt not compete with minis she only did 4 competitions with the mini team because they needed a base that was of age for mini......just remember if u dont know us we are a small gym so just like any other gym small gym we have to have cross overs to make our teams complete i was there for a lot of the taping for this show so plz know there was a lot of editing that was done :)
