All-Star Positives And Negatives Of 2011 Worlds (the Event, Not Teams)

The crowd control could be fixed if 50 % of those small seniors and small limited coeds didn't look like senior open teams. I swear half of these teams are, and they just go to those last little competitions to get a bid, just to go to worlds knowing they don't have a chance. Kinda depressing...shouldn't the company sending them WANT them to represent them in a POSITIVE manor...IMO don't mean to be negative, just way too packed, just so USASF can make an extra buck (like they need it)

I understand and agree with the many reasons Disney is a great location for Worlds. Being asked to leave a seat I paid $25 a day for though is offensive and out of line. The expectation of a seat for monies paid is not unreasonable. The layout of Wide World of Sports as a walk around Complex allows the venue to be oversold. To then ask the customer to handle their own crowd control and safety is ridiculous
For the future beyond 2014 Disney needs to possiibly build and offer a larger arena to keep not only the USASF but other events that have outgrown the facilities comming back to Disney. I can't believe we are the only event eash year with these issues at Disney.

This may be a silly question, but why not move it outside onto one of the fields? You could set up a concert-like stage with appropriate coverage in case of rain. If it rains, spectators can buy a poncho with Mickey or Minnie on the back. The holding areas could be a series of climate-controlled tents so the competitors don't have to deal with the elements. If it is hurricane-like conditions, or the forecast is just plain miserable, move it back inside.

Let's hear why it would be a bad move to have it outside.

Pos- Great location. I agree it was over crowded but Worlds will always be at Disney. Scores for the most part were fairly consistent. Coaches Hosp ;)
Neg- Too many bids therefore too many people. I will repeat again, there is a 0% chance that I or anyone should be asked to watch Worlds on a TV if you paid to travel to or even if you paid 25$ to attend. Good sportsmanship would be USASF STEP UP and do something bc there is obviously a prob.
Neg- People walking off the floor to hug or shake hands with people before they compete or people walking on the floor, not ok. Just wait until the performance is over. Also not allowing coaches on the floor after their kids perform, who do you think you are not to allow a coach to approach their kids AFTER the performance is over!?

Three words:

Advance ticket sales.

10,000 seats? Subtract the # of competitors & coaches, and sell the rest of the tickets. Presales go to bid-awarded gyms first for a predetermined amount of time, then sell the rest to the general public. Are the seats able to be sold concert-style, like you actually purchase seat "AAA6" or whatever? That would be helpful. That way you know when you buy your ticket, you have a seat, and you will be able to sit with your group.

I have never been to worlds, but with the description of the crowding situation, I don't think I would have wanted to be in there if a fire alarm went off.

I think that would help, but I would guess that if you sold advance tickets you could probably sell twice that many, easy. And if that's the case, then it's probably time to out of the Milkhouse.

For example, how far is the Amway Center from Disney? Too far to realistically shuttle people there? If so, then I'm not sure where else you could have the competition in that area, as I'm not aware of another arena-sized facility.

All of the major NCAA basketball conference tournaments sell tickets for assigned seating per session (typically two per day). First crack at an allotment of tickets for each session goes to the teams/schools who are playing in each session. This covers the families for each player, and a certain number of tickets for the booster clubs/donors. Schools look after dispersing these tickets. Then, the remaining seats are open for sale to the general public. Any unused tickets by the school go back on sale to the general public.

This could work, with some thought, for each of the teams at worlds. It would be a shame to keep people out, but it would probably be more enjoyable overall if you don't have to worry about getting trampled.

okay, all you are thinking about having it "here" having it there, but usasf has to find kind of a "middle place" for teams.. california is deffs not a middle place for maryland twitsers

For me, I think Disney is a great place (won't lie, I'm a Disney kid) for Worlds if we take what MomOf2ThatsMe's idea. Sell it like a concert ticket so we dont' have that problem of overcrowding. I don't like the whole you have a certain seat because we have our fierceboard section, friends want to sit together and all of that stuff. Also, move some of the popular teams to Jostens. No one wanted to leave the Milkhouse because why leave when all of the teams you want to see are going to be performing there? Being home, a lot of us were wanting updates from Jostens and no one was there to give them to us. Also, moving it to different cities would be a little crazy. Most teams are on the east coast, plain and simple. Sending most of the competitors to the west coast would be an issue. I think if we can get it right Disney will be a forever home for Worlds.

Going back to the main post though. Didn't like how many people were in the small senior division as well. Most of the teams shouldnt' have been there that were in prelims and I think that would've saved a lot of time seeing as the Milkhouse was behind schedule all weekend. VOD was well worth my money though. I don't like how dance and cheer was mixed because I didn't care for the dance videos LOL, and they did take their time uploading some videos but other times they were good about updating the site.

Scoring was a little ridiculous, and things I thought would count more didn't, but oh well I guess. It's all over now.

worlds depression ):

I posted in a thread about this a while ago and listed about 15 different reasons why Disney World is a PERFECT location for this event. The only thing they can't handle is the # of people which has grown each year. Other than that, I don't think there is any reason to look elsewhere.

I wish they would have set it up where divisions that had to potentially compete 3 times competed at least once in a different venue. It was boring having to watch some of those at-large small senior teams twice in the milkhouse and having to run to Jostens to catch a glimpse of ioc5 & io5 & sm limited

oh i completely agree! what is the big deal? just let the coaches hug their kids! i understand keeping fans on the side from running onto the floor but i feel like coaches should be allowed to give their athletes a "you guys did amazing" hug.
