All-Star Panthers Not Cali?

Who knows King? What I think about comparative skills is probably not important. I know going into this that we understood the emphasis on synchronization, but our passes were not groups throwing the same pass together but combining passes that ended together. And we payed the price. From watching the teams that won, they seemed to have more identical passes going together, but honestly yesterday was a bit of a downer and I did not look closely. I was around a lot of interviewing and I can tell you injury rates are a big deal, and being aggressively looked at, and they are going to be addressed and it is going to effect tumbling difficulty directly.

Injury rates are a big deal, but I think we could look at the change and emphasis in a year ending scoresheet AND people changing their routines in response as possible cause. I think standardization in scoresheets would increase the safety of our sport as much as standardized rules. At Worlds it was not as much as a hit fest as last year... and this year and the most different scoresheet. Coincidence?

I feel certain that this issue will be the hammer that moves cheerleading into a system of scoring, evaluating instruction, athletes, scoresheets and competitions that is standardized and probably modeled on gymnastics. I think it will happen quickly, and I think it will be good for everyone. Just observing the smoke signals. Good job with Spice this weekend, I though yall did great.

I don't get it... I watched the vod, and I simply do not see it. I love me some Panthers, don't get me wrong, but the difficulty wasn't near Cali's, and their execution was not as good. Panthers, I saw 2 bobbles, cali only one and it wasn't that bad. Panthers had someone tumble right off the mat, and I saw at least one incomplete double in running tumbling.

I mean, wtf am I missing? How is it possible that Cali came in 2nd yet again? I mean, I honestly don't know what else these girls have to do to win a Worlds title. Panthers were great, and I don't want to take away from it, but I really think Cali should have had this. I don't see a single category where Panthers could've outscored them.

1. Panthers significantly out tumble (running/standing/synch)
Panthers significantly out jump Cali
this explains the 8 point difference in tumbling
2. Cali finished 2nd in '08 and '11. Definitely not what I would consider a perennial bridesmaid.
3. See point number 1.

Exactly. If you wanna say CA outscored them in tumbling because of the synch, then fine, I absolutely agree. BUT by over 8 points!? NO MA'AM... I truly don't see how Cali's tumbling score didn't even break 90, especially because of what they show in the standing category.
Don't forget jumps, execution and overall routine impression are included in the "tumbling" score sheet. Cali's jumps are not to the same level as CA. It's probably safe to say the overall routine impression will be much higher from the tumbling judges from a tumbling team.

Thanks. It was an overall weekend of mixed emotions for me. Some good and some disappointment, but it is to be expected cause this is sports. I have to say I am very proud of the Spicers and how far they have come. Those kids came a heckuva long way.

do you know if spice is going to stay in large senior, or is it going to be restricted again? im just curious

All depends on tryouts and what kids show up. We don't really have plans before tryouts (and that happens this weekend). My gut says if there was a Spice it would probably be SO5 again.

aww i was hoping spice would stay large senior 5! They were soooo good considering that they were SO5 until there last comp of the season (excluding worlds) i give props to them :) and Congrats to CA!

its oveer with leave it alone next year we will see whats happens!btw im a cali fan 100% but panthers killed it also and what happened happened and there is no way to change it so i think this topic is not even worth it!

From my understanding, there is going to be a push away from harder and harder combination tumbling skills and towards, form specific execution and synchronized skills due to the presumption of less injuries with less pushing the tumbling envelope on difficulty at the expense of form. I think we are going to hear a lot about injury rates over the next few months, and I believe this competition will mark that move towards rewarding form and synchronization, especially in Level 5 and away from difficulty. Mark my word on injuries, it is coming down the pike.

I think the only problem that could cause is that MORE people are going to be pushing for difficulty so you can have synched punch through to doubles, synched whip through to doubles, etc..

Wait are you saying that jumps and overall performance were under the tumbling section on the score sheet?? I'm confused.

No, nope... still don't see it... synched tumbling, ok. But Cali had higher difficulty in tumbling everywhere- more jumps to back, i don't see how just having synched ro bs doubles could put panthers 8 points ahead in tumbling... and Cali's stunt scores should've been significantly higher as well

Don't forget that jumps are in tumbling scores
