Does anyone know of any Cheer programs in Manhattan? I've looked but the closest I could find is Brooklyn. . .

WORLD CUP UNITES WITH ATHLETIC EDGE SPORTS CENTER, STATEN ISLAND NY

MEET AND GREET: OPEN TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN CHEERLEADING JULY 8, 2011: 5:30 TO 7:00PM AT ATHLETIC EDGE 10 NASSAU PLACE STATEN ISLAND, NY 10307
sorry its not manhattan. but it is nyc :)

I live/lived in NYC and there's nothing that I'm aware of in Manhattan proper. There's one 'gym' called Aviator All-stars that's out of Brooklyn (I think it's in Park Slope?), but I'm not sure what their offerings are (As far as I know they're run out of a sports facility, not a straight cheer gym). There's also a few on Staten Island, the main ones I know of being Staten Island Spirit and Staten Island Gems, and now World Cup is opening something out of athletic edge. Although I'm not sure of transport around SI, minus the train (if you're not from there/don't have a car, would you have to walk for ages?).

Trust me, my greatest sadness is the lack of NYC cheer gyms. :(

I have seen them before! I believe they offer lower level youth and senior teams?

How about Cheer New York???
I think cheerleading is not famous in NYC. Even many of the high schools there don't have a cheer squad?? I wonder why... New Yorkers don't give a damn about cheerleading?

Cheer New York is like a hybrid of cheer and LGBT equality support. They mostly do parades and various other such events, plus you have to be 21+..

NYU finally got a college comp cheer program..as for Pace (where I went), all of the sports are at the Westchester campus. I'm not even sure if the other schools have sports or not. Personally, I think it's a shame. It'd be a great way to get kids off the streets and doing something active, plus there are plenty of big-enough facilities. Just need the start up cash. As well as interest..

How about New York Cheer? Do they have level 5 teams? and do they go to worlds?
It must be hard to raise up the interest of cheerleading in nyc...

New York Cheer is off on LI..not sure how far exactly, but it's enough of a distance where you'd need the LIRR.

I don't know if it's hard, or just nobody's ever tried? I assume the thought of what the rent cost might be scares a lot of people off, but I know of a 'small' trapeze gym that seems to do pretty well (granted, the area LOOKS sketch 'cause they're updating all the old factories, so maybe they could keep it down that way? And it's in Brooklyn)..
