How Heavy Is Too Heavy For Flyers?

A flyers weight shouldn't matter. Neither should her height. True, most flyers are tiny and short, but that doesn't mean that anyone else can fly.
By worrying about the stereotype, we're just furthering the amount of truth held within it.

A flyer's weight matter matters because lifting additional weight is more wear and tear on the bases and a flyer with more weight comes down with more force, increasing the chance for injury.

However, if the flyer holds herself this won't be a problem. The bases should be strong enough to support their flyer no matter what. As a base, I can say that there have been girls I didn't want to fly because of their weight, but as soon as they got in the air they were excellent. If they are strong enough to hold themselves in the air, the bases should not have problems lifting them, as is their job.

I'm not a flyer, so may I ask, how does a flyer hold their own weight? All I can think of is pulling up and staying tight. Other than those things, is there any other way to hold your weight to seem lighter?

Im sorry but the statement " it dosent matter how much your flyer weighs as long as she can hold her weight is a lie" My flyer for high school is a good flyer, and looks good in the air but she comes down so heavily!

If your flyer can't hold herself in smoosh with NO help from bases or back for at least 16 counts then she is not strong enough to fly. If you cant lift your own weight how can you expect others to!

Generally, I agree that size shouldn't matter too much, as long as the flyer is good, stays tight and has talent. But obviously there has to be a limit somewhere. I think it wouldn't be helpfull at all to put a number to that limit but to deny that it is there is not right as well.
Extreme example: I can put my 240 lbs something coach into the air with female bases only and we can even manage to full down out of a prep. But thats really it. He could hold himself all he wanted and pull every bodypositition known, he wouldn't fly because of his weight!
Beside that I find it easier to save a stunt, when the flyer is smaller (as long as she is an at least decent flyer and fighting for it). If technique fails, I save the stunt with strength and the smaller the flyer, the easier it gets.

But mind you, I love to stunt with the taller flyers from my team, because you really notice the effort they put into the stunt. They also look really pretty in the air. And, on a more selfish note, I feel like achieving more when managing difficult stunts with heavier flyers. ;)

I agree, it really all depends on how hard the flyer tries and how well she holds herself up. I've had tiny flyers that don't try at all and end up being pretty hard to fly because they're so wobbly. I've also had really tall/muscular flyers that are AMAZING because they are so talented and they know how to pull their own weight.

i belive a flyer is not matched by her weight but by her flexability... if she is flexable then i will let her go in the air and keep her up no matter what... weight is not the issue flexablity is:)

I think it depends on the size and strength of your bases. On my daughters youth 2 squad some of the most flexible girls are the bigger girls. My daughter has an amazing heel stretch, bow, and scorpion but she is too big to fly on her squad. She is 8yo and solid muscle 75lbs. Most of her squad is probably around 50-60lbs so lifting her is not an option. Her coach tells her all the time to just keep up her flexibility because one day the kids will even out more and she will be flying. She loves to base too so whatever happens she's good with it.
