When you cut your own music with Stop Record/play. And when napster (coupled with mixing software you could use on a pc) became easily available.....the use and abuse of sound effects spread like a virus.
I still have all of my Cheer Music that I mixed myself on my stereo tape deck 1986!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow! that is so long ago!!!!!:fro:

kaepa shoes with the channgeable litte triangles. i used to have those in middle school. no nfinity shoes or anything like that
Or the Converse ones with the tabs you were able to slide them in the sides of your shoes! I loved those shoes!!!! wow!!! I guess I am showing my age here!!!! :fro:haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing to do with cheer but I remember unlocking car doors with car keys (not remotes).

And cheer related, I remember when coaches had to ask EP's to create divisions specifically for their all stars. Bc competitive school squads outnumbered all stars.....

socks with megaphones on them
big bloomers instead of spankies
polyester sweaters and heavy skirts
ribbons instead of bows
cheering on gym floors instead of mats
competitions held at school gyms instead of convention centers
there was no vendors at competitions, just team bake sales and 50/50, maybe a silent auction
school teams had to cheer for the football team as well as compete
poms with metallic colors were a big deal

High top Reeboks were the deal ( I still think they were the best cheer shoe EVER )
Competing on wrestling mats.
Tumbling out to compete.
Spotters were required!
I don't miss any of that spray glitter, or cheer curls. I wish ribbons would come back, these bows and uniforms are getting a bit much, but then again this is a "show your age" thread lol.
When you had to "stop" an "start" your music!
Last pass was a full and the crowd went bananas.
Double backs were legal ;)
Ok last one, when mini-tramps and 3 high pyramids were legal!? I never competed these but I went to a comp and let me tell ya INSANE!!!

When my oldest started cheer (2004) we had thick polyester uniforms, messy bun pigtails with fairy scrunchies, and I think her division was mini prep or something to that effect (basically mini level 1). The year we got the thin material for our unis I thought we were cutting edge...lol Oh an crop tops were scandalous! I remember a mom running into the parent room at Heat with an American Cheerleader magazine and showing us a pic of Top Gun (a nun's outfit compared to what they wear now) and we were all like "Ohhhhhh they have no clothes on!" :D
I work with a nurse that cheered on a team that was the 1st to request an all star division. I think the gym was "Cheers2U".

It feels kind of funny that so many of these things are still pretty common in Germany. ^^
Like the cheer curls and vowel/puffy cheek facials, turtlenecks,... :cool:

And in the UK too, although more teams are starting to wear GK style uniforms. But the wiglet curl things are dying out over here :)
