All-Star Cheating With Over Age Kids On Teams!!!!

That is cheating and it should be reported. Our old gym did that but at the time I didn't really pay too much attention and figured that the owner and coaches would not be doing something incorrectly. My daughter was on a Junior team and we had a Junior in high school on the team and then the next season she was a Senior still on the team. We won some big Nationals at that time and thinking back if someone ever turned us in AT the competition my child who was age appropriate would have been devastated. It's not fair to the rest of the team to put their season in jeopardy. I'm sure one or two kids does not make a huge difference but they need to be on age appropriate teams. It's a shame that gyms feel they need to cheat to win.

My daughter cheered on an IOC team at 13 along with 2 other 13 year old girls. It was a sr team that switched to IOC mid season. They won a bid to worlds and kicked the 3 girls off. I had no idea until they kicked them off that she was illegal. It was her second year to cheer ever. Parents have to trust the coaches and owner. They continue to use illegal athletes. I have learned a ton since that incident. They don't seem to have.

TURN THEM IN....gyms are cheating because they think they can continue to get away with it, and that nothing will happen to them even if they get turned in...the louder our voices are about cheating, the more people will listen...and trust me, you will not be the only one turning in a gym for cheating on ages this year ;)

This is so odd to me. Who are these parents allowing their 13 year old on a youth team? I'd be livid if someone put my almost 10 year old on a mini team - I'm trying to move her UP, not down. Aside from it being against the rules, I just can't see a parent agreeing to hold their child back???

Girl, I had our TEAM MOM diagreeing with me about the junior division. She was insistant that junior went up to 15 by August 31st. People are clueless.

Disclaimer: We don't have 15 year olds on the team, we were just trying to figure out who ages out...

We have this exact same thing happening here. One gym is blatantly breaking the rules. They've been reported (with proof) but not a whole lot has happened. They aren't USASF members so it's the EP's that are hearing about it.

Beleive it or not, most parents don't know the age limits for these teams. In addition, they may have been offered a discount on thier tuition or had other added perks given. REPORT IT!

i agree. seriously EVERY competition the SAME mom sits next to me and goes "are they our competition?" me "no, that's a senior team, we're junior." her "what's the difference?"

<snip>

"that's a senior team and they aren't doing back handsprings! are you sure that's a senior team?" me: "yes, it's senior level 1. i tell you this EVERY competition...the NAME is the age group, the NUMBER is the skill level." her: "oh, whatever, just tell me what team is competing against my cp.'s team."

BOL!!!!:p

Hearing some of the clueless mom stories makes me so thankful my mom paid attention and never asked these bad of questions. but then I guess if your driving at least a hour for practices you probably pay more attention and take it more serious :p

How does everyone feel about $200 to report an ineligible athlete at Jamfest? Its not hard, call the gym up to the judges table and ask to see Birth Certificates. Thats not a $200 task. I know SO MANY people that haven't reported someone (myself included) cuz I don't have $200 laying around...

You're joking. That's like charging someone to call 911.

It seems to me that there is no infrastructure or protocol for dealing with this situation; sadly it is an unenforceable mandate. Under the current system it is left to the integrity of each program and their administration, some of which are more honest then others. Maybe some one could comment on what the USASF or EP's can do to eradicate this?

Im 90% sure that Jamfest charges $200 to investigate cheating or an misplaced athlete.... Someone correct me if Im wrong or let me know if I am right....

I think being fined for breaking the rules is fair. We had a local gym with a junior team that had some really big girls. I finally realized why they were so big when I ran into one of them leaving a grocery store from her "job" and get in her car and drive away. I think it is appalling what some gyms will do to gain an advantage.

At our last competition there was a Junior team that competed in a Senior division because of an injury and the only replacement they could get was overage. They were honest and didn't try to pull one over on the judges. I admire this group for doing the right thing. I would never send my daughter to a gym that was known for cheating. What kind of lesson are you sending your kids......?
