All-Star Cheating With Over Age Kids On Teams!!!!

Another example of one of the things I feel the USASF could be doing with credentialing, the fees they charge and the rules they've helped to set in place.

For those of you who are in the midst of reporting these issues I'd love to hear how your experiences pan out.

I will let them know. But they have competed ALL Year this way. The parent told me. I believe all titles should be revolked and serious punishment should be implemented. There needs to be a standard across the board punishment posted so people know what they are getting in to before they cheat and they are fully aware of the consequences.

Are they USASF members? If not, you won't find an EP who is willing to go back and (lose a customer) revoke anything

LOL, mini teams with kids that look like they can drive?.....you are sooooo funny!
There's a team we see with some regularity that we call the "middle school minis" EVERY kid on that team looks like they're about 5 feet tall and they are TIGHT ( like body control maturity in excess of your typical 7 year old) and clearly have skills above their level. They absolutely massacre in that division every year and are usually level champs at level 2 as well. Either every kid on that team has a birthday within a week of the cutoff or there are shenanigans going on. It just does seem possible for a gym that size (probably less than 100 athletes) to be able to field a mini team like that. It's insanity.

Actually, I'm wrong, they're Level 1 not two. How often does a mini 1 consistently beat older level 1s for level champs? I wouldn't think that often.

They charge you to question a legality? And you question a placement? WTF! We pay them over rated comp fees, travel, admission, vendors, etc and they want to charge us when they made a friggin' mistake? Thank lord I Haven't come across that before...
Mind you, I should have stated that in my experience I was never charged more than $50 and I can honestly say that when I knew I was right about a legality being incorrectly assessed to my team, I sure did manage to find $50 to fight it. And win. :)

Still... ANY money for their mistake is dumb, IMO!

We are a small gym that has a mini level 1 team that has won high point/grand champion three times this year beating both large and small gyms at national comps. Every one of them are mini age and all of them are the right size for their age. It can happen - they are a very talented group of girls.

There is another gym in our town that competes with my CP's gym for athletes. All the cheerleaders go to school together, cheer on their school teams together and live in the same neighborhoods... so it's obvious that we know each other's business. Three years ago they had a girl that was on a Youth team that I knew was too old.. she was in the same grade as my oldest CP and lives in our neighborhood. Their gym owner accused our owner of calling the EP 2 days before a national comp to "rat" them out. When I went to say hello to the moms at the comp I was bombarded by all of these moms telling me that our gym owner was "malicious" and "how could she hurt another child like that". They all claimed that they had no idea that she was too old - and most of them had more all-star experience than I did. In retrospect, I realize now I should have mentioned something at the beginning of the season but I honestly didn't think it was any big deal. It was only our 2nd year of all-star cheer so I was still very naive. You can rest assured that if it were to happen again I would not hesitate a second to call them out. :)

Not to hijack this thread, but is it legal to bring a girl from college to compete at worlds on on IOC5 team that has never competed with your gym at all? Never even met the team until she arrived in Orlando?

I think she was saying that it is consistant, every year. With a mini 1 (especially at a smaller gym) you usually expect to see a large variety of body types from itty bitty 6 year olds to the occasional 95th percentile height kid who turned 9 in September. However, this team seems well experienced and is full of the latter.

If she was on the alternate list at the event that they got their bid then it is legal. I'm only about 95% sure of this though so someone feel free to correct me.

Not illegal.

From USASF: WORLDS ALTERNATES: Of the 10 possible substitutes, one to three of those 10 may be alternates. Alternates are registered members of the same team’s gym where the bid was received. Alternates do not have to be rostered or in attendance at the Worlds bid qualifying event where the bid was received.

At one of our events this year. we had an extremely bad injury backstage in warmups. we are a small gym, only 3 teams, and we had a girl on j1 get hurt. we had to pull a girl from s2 down (even though she was 16) to fill in. we told the event producers about the situation, and they said we could still compete but start with a 10 point deduction. praise jesus that they were flawless and came out to win by a large margin! and then got level 1 grand champs on top of that!! honesty is definitely the right policy!

I don't know if the girl I am thinking of was rostered or not, but I am 100% certain she never once competed or practiced with the team until she got to worlds. In fact, she even posted something on her facebook the day she arrived saying something like "I just got to Orlando and can't wait to meet my team." If that is indeed illegal, I am so disappointed in that gym. :(
