Funny, there are some big names coming out of the woodwork to support the USASF....could the looming 2012 World's have anything to do with that? I think yes. Even if you support what USASF is supposedly "trying" to do how in the world can you support the way in which they went about it? I don't get it. Funny thing is, I don't even have a kid that will be affected by these rules next season but the way in which this happened is really unsettling to me.
all I am saying is it was fear that lead people to follow Hitler or Voldemort if you are more of a book nerd than a history buff, even though they knew that it was wrong they followed out of fear..

the thing that is making me the most angry is people saying "if you are not on level 5, this dosnt affect you so stop acting upset"
i AM on level 5 but the rule changes CLEARLY effects everyone because of the new apperace policies, age groups, ect...
so please, dont be getting all cocky just because you are lvl 5. this is going to effect the entire cheerleading world, not just people with double doubles.

I think that after everyone had some time and slept on it, as well as got additional information about the ruling, that they have a greater understanding of where this is potentially heading. Sometimes things are not so obvious to the "masses" and while obviously hugely unpopular at first, I don't see nearly as much outrage as I did last night.

Good news everyone. I just got back from my chemistry lab and my teacher was wearing a teal shirt. She's never spoken about allstar cheerelading, but she must be part of the movement by her obvious support for all things teal, aka: everything Courtney Pope says, thinks, or does.
THE POPE KNOWS ALL. Praise the Pope! ;)

kingston ... insight? I know you obviously don't represent everything Stingrays feels... but as a coach at Stingrays and an influential individual in the industry you are still against it, correct?

Quite a few things. I highly support the age grid and division changes. I think as there is little discussion or argument about those they made sense. Those did not need to follow the process as we made changes last year so they are within the bounds of our current system.

Outside of the statement about males I do support the 'idea' of the image code. I think it needs refinement, but they also gave plenty of time to make adjustments if needed.

The problem they were tackling with the tumbling rules I understand. I support the USASF in the fact I think they will get it right, even if they don't exactly have it right now.

i feel awful for maybe a 15 year old that just went to an all star tryout an made an international level 5 team. Well sorry, but you cant be on the team anymore. this is horrible :/

I have cheered and did competitive gymnastics since I was 7 until I was 20.. I never had an injury while in gymnastics.. I have 2 injuries in cheerleading.. A black eye from a flyers foot while on Youth "Advanced" and a severe ankle sprain from a toe touch goofing around. I even compete a double TWO WEEKS after a bone marrow transplant surgery (even though I was advised by my doctor lol) on hard floor at UCA Nationals, the only injury I recieved from that.. Not stretching properly before tackling the tumbling.. I literally got spotted on a cartwheel all the way up to a the double in the practice room before we competed.. What got me through it was the technique that I learned from my tumbling coach, who was also my gymnastic coach (the decision to complete was completely my own, no coach pressured me to compete)

As a coach and choreographer for the past 9 years, majority of the injuries I've seen have come from Jumps, Tapping out of Stunts, round off/cartwheels or kids just goofing around.. I have had 1 athlete tear there ACL on a Full and 1 on a Hand double (bc they landed and immediately tried to walk away) I have had several athletes get injuried from the things I listed above..

Many competition I have been in the practice room and have shakes my head at what coaches are having athletes do that they simply shouldn't, restricting skills isn't going to reduce injury when you aren't probably training the coaching. Coaches need to be trained and regulated. I've seen soo many teams that shouldn't be in a worlds division, but in restricted 5.. So why don't you do it how Gymnastics does.. Those athletes can not just be level 9 because the want to be.. They have to qualify for it.. I can see issues here, but it's just a thought. Just like when worlds first started entire teams had to credential by going through every level.. It was removed bc why? Too much work for you? Having to pay people to fly out to the areas and take time do that?

Also wasn't Varsity/Usasf recently sold as a corporations for somewhere around $300 Million mark.. I may be wrong on this, but I'm sure whatever company/person/trust that purchased it is looking to increase it's market value and be able to, in the future sell it for even more., meaning they are only seeing $$$ signs.. Highly doubt the "company etc" that purchased it is considering the ones involved, instead looking to increase it's profits, in let's say uniform sales, apparel sales (warm ups) etc..

IMO, several of these new 'rules' are common sense (at least to me) our gym has put in practice the 'etiquette' and 'image' rules for YEARS. They've believed in perfection before progression for YEARS, our athletes condition at each practice, are given nutritional counseling. our gym does everything within their power to make sure our athletes are ready to perform the routines and the skills that they have worked so very hard to get. There are a lot of elite gyms that do this very same thing. HOWEVER, we all know for every gym that follows this practice, there is at least one that says, ok your landing your layout, lets move on to fulls, or caves to the pressure of an over zealous parent pushing to get 'Suzi' on a higher level team or throwing skills she has no business throwing. or puts there athletes in uniforms that so ridiculously ugly, they make the devil cry.....these are the people that are going to ruin our sport. USASF is putting the bandaid on the wrong cut....let's address cheating, coaches sleeping with minors, drug and alcohol use by coaches and athletes (sometimes coaches with athletes). let's address credentialling, universal score sheet, good sportsmanship (not the 'don't cheer when you know you've won 1st), real sportsmanship, public service, education....sorry i could go on and on....rant over.
