Althought it wasn't very insightful of the Panthers we love, I did somewhat find interesting. While it lack substance and facts, it was kind of a different view of the team. I just wished more cheer was mentioned. I liked that they did make their popularity known.

Best music ever!

I'm not too sure how I feel about this. The reporter certainly did not do cheerleading or the Panthers any favors here, but I'm not thinking they get 100% of the blame in this. You have to be careful of everything you do and say around a reporter.
Agreed. I have to wonder how a video companion piece to this article would support or refute the reporter's perspective.

I did read the story. I was disappointed in general how it portrayed one of the best programs in the country. If a reporter can do this with a team like the Panthers, I may have to re-evaluate my opinion on "Cheer Perfection". Maybe you really can edit to make a decent program look umm....I can not think of an appropriate word????

I do have one question. It felt very childish in parts. How old was the person writing the story? BlueCat Writing about fainting games and fires being set? Hair curling and Pouf's??? Some of this stuff looks like it came out of a caricature of what a dumb cheerleader is in "Bring It On"???

What is wrong with covering a story from the point of view of an elite cheer athelete: how hard they work, how long it took to get there, injuries, what it takes to make it to World's, wins and losses, all of that would be fascinating in itself. Why do I feel like they thought they needed an exploitive angle to make it interesting?

The article just seemed disrespectful to the spirit of the sport. Yes there were some good things in this story, but I can't remember any of it because I am still thinking about the fire in this poor woman's back yard and whether their parents know they were holding their breath until they passed out? :(

This article reminded me a lot of the ESPN Magazine article on Cheer Extreme from about a year and a half ago. I hate how these writers make allstar cheer seem so glossy and superficial. I wonder if his editor suggested that he play up the stereotypes?

One positive I remember - he called "most" of the Panthers "Olympic caliber gymnasts".
