I'm all for it! Until something like this exists, we'll continue practicing on mats with barly any velcro to keep them from moving...

I'm imagining the problems that might come from rolling up something with springs. What about a design based off of a rod floor or a ski floor?

What about some type of hyper compressive rubber? And then have 4 large mats that roll out perpendicular to the normal mats and provide some bounce?

Maybe something like these air mats? Roll out and air up...

Air Floor - tumbling inflated rebound mat - Tumbl Trak - Gymnastics, Cheerleading and Dance Equipment

Unfortunately, I think with anything that rolls up and is springy, durability could be an issue.

that has potential. so a rollout airfloor. how long to blow up? is it like a balloon and holds air or is it like a bounce house and needs constant air?

how fast could it be blown up? would it simulate springs?

Do you remember the elementary school lunch tables that when you want to fold them up they unlatch in the middle and you lift them up from the middle and the two bottoms come together? They would store upright, wheels could be put on the bottom and when unfolded that would mean the wheels would be on the ends, however, the foam that is velcro'd around the sides would cover it.

CP has used a mat like the ones I linked to. They hold air and are very lightweight. She says the rebound is similar to a spring floor. Not sure how long it would take to air each panel up, but I'm guessing quicker than setting a spring floor. Definitely easier to transport!

Whats their lifespan? Need to be able to setup 3 times a week for at least 5 years? How many to fill an entire floor?

Air floors personally freak me out. I'm kind of weird with surfaces that I tumble on. I can do everything the same on the spring floor and hard floor but I hate the air floor and tumble trak, and I only throw certain skills on the wood (standing tuck, standing bhs and running series) because I'm just like a really mental tumbler. So if I had to compete on a air floor it would really freak me out and I would probably only throw certain skills. I doubt I'm the only that's weird about surfaces, so I'm just throwing that out there as something to think about.

I think there would be a typical cheer floor on top of the air floor if I'm reading it all correctly.

Here is what I am thinking:

The reason college and high school compete on hard floor is because colleges and high schools HAVE to practice in a facility that is not only theirs. They need to be able to roll up and put away their floors. If they could roll up a spring floor and it was cost effective we could all be competing and practicing on the same surface.

They debuted these at GAT a few years ago and they were super expensive then but we all wanted one very much. The square alone was too much but these things were fabulous. They were as springy as a spring floor but with absolutely no dead spots anywhere. I loved them and have dreamed of having one to put down next to the tumble track as a good transition to the floor.

I would love for these to replace spring floors.

ETA: they did NOT feel like an inflatable. They were solid with lots of spring. I thought they'd have taken over by now for sure. Must be the price.
