You all seem to forget interest. I am sure the Yearly payments are covering the interest first and the balance going to the principle. Or was the loan interest free?

IDK. Is that information posted? Is it supposed to be?

I think we will get further with this discussion without turning this into a Varsity witch hunt. My experience is that the rank and file members of the company are good folk who genuinely want is best for their customer base. I don't agree with everything they do, but implying that they are lining their pocketbooks through the blood of wounded small children is not productive, IMO.

My guess is that we will get a sterilized, lawyer-approved "response" in a few days. ASCheerMan & RulesGuy both pay attention to the boards, and probably have legitimate counter-arguments to much of what has been said, but this starts to get into issues that they probably aren't allowed to speak publicly about anymore. I believe there is now an official, paid PR person that handles controversial issues. While I personally prefer completely open, honest responses from business leaders to the political non-answers that you most often from PR types, let's let that person earn their paycheck.

ASCheerMan has made his thoughts available on page 6 but don't think you will see any sort of official response from either entity on this board.
I would like to comment that companies usually owe responses to its constituents or customers in the proper forum.

But similar to the growcheer proposal, just because it's covered in social media doesn't mean an answer is owed on social media.

I imagine that anyone that wants to reach out to a company directly has that right to do so. But most groups don't address message boards directly. --even when there is a HOT THREAD ALERT on Twitter. LOL

Not sure who is advising USASF on the best way to handle social media concerns, but fair enough, perhaps we can use this to thread to debate some potential proposals and some potential questions for Varsity/USASF. What would be the formal way to propose/pose those to the powers that be? Should we have someone read them aloud at each regional meeting this summer? Send a certified letter to Memphis? Make a Harlem Shake video with someone holding up each proposal?

And thus the problem. The organization that is supposed to represent "us" and should be in a position to respond to this proposal gets their paychecks basically from Varsity. The sport has no one to represent it that is not beholden to Jeff Webb to feed their children. I know what it's like to be in those corporate board rooms. It's all about the bottom line. There will never be a decision that comes out of the USASF that will result in negative financial impact to Varsity/Herff Jones. For example, it is doubtful that USASF will ever require that there be on-site EMT/Paramedics (say 1/500 athletes - number made up for arguments sake) because that will increase cost to the Varsity owned EPs. Or require that gyms that participate in sponsored events have CPR certified staff and an AED on site and employ someone to inspect those facilities for compliance. Those are the kinda of things I would like to see implemented along with a legitimate coaches and judges certification and standardized scoring.

It's issues like these that sit in the back of my mind; and no matter how much we enjoy all-star, it just makes me count down the days to when my cp ages out and is off to college!

The unfortunate truth is that these issues with safety are the same if not worse in other forms of cheer.

I've had made the statement a few times that there is no entity I know of, short of ones that make a profit, that is concerned with the safety and progression of the sport as a whole.

The sad truth is if she cheers in college, the saftey issue gets worse.

I can attest to that. Most college coaches don't have the training or facilities to properly teach higher level skills than is competed in allstar. What's even worse is the one connection to Allstar, Level 6, the rules aren't the same and the division sizes aren't the same.

Why colleges/allstar programs wouldn't want the rules to be the same blows my mind. If they are the same more allstar coaches could help with colleges increasing the safety and increasing the bottom line for college cheer involvement. I understand if you can find a way to increase the bottom line and help everything it is more likely to happen.

I should probably re-word that. College cheer is not a definite. So when I wrote that, it was in the context of putting cheer behind us.

If she does, I'd at least hope it's doing A&T, but if not, then 4 more years of counting down... I wish she had stayed with Track and Field at least as an alternative.

By the way, when did The King become Mr Smith?

Mr Smith the National Champion Cheer Coach... lol

I'm not sure which is the most appropriate, I would assume starting with an email makes the most sense.

I just know that, sometimes, people on the Fierceboard like to get worked up and vent and then sit around and wonder why nobody is responding to their questions... when the truth is that most don't ever go out of their way to actually ask the questions--they just posted about it. Social media may be a great place to share ideas, but it isn't where every single conversation needs to play out. (Prob shocked to hear ME say that, of all people)

my thought process in my response. thanks

OK. I get asked questions about the USASF all the time, some of which I can answer, some of which I do not know, and some that pertain to information I got during my time on the Board of Directors (which I may not share.) I can compile a list of questions and proposals to send to the powers that be.

I would state up front that I am really only interested in information that could be made 100% public, so I guess all of those answers/responses will need to go through the PR machine & lawyers first. If the USASF believes the answer to a question is secret information, that will be noted. A short explanation for the need for secrecy on that topic would be appreciated.

If you have a question or proposal you would like presented to the USASF, please post here and I will add it to the list. (I will include everything that isn't already being covered or what I think is stupid/offensive.) At some point, I'll get a google doc going and share the list as it grows. If you fear reprisal for simply asking a question, send it to me via PM and I won't put your name on it.
