I've actually gone to NYC every spring break since freshman year (I'm a senior) and I've gotten to look at it, but I'm just so old now that it's not as "cool" as it was when I was little. Wish I could've gone when it actually interested me!

I'm glad I got to go when I did. I moved when I was 7 and always wanted to go back but there were none near us. They didn't build the Chicago one until I was too old for it

I went to the American Girl store in Chicago for my birthday once! I can't remember what age I was, but we had tea with our dolls and everything. It was awesome, that place is huge!
That store is so nice! When I used to live in Illinois i went there for the first time in 2nd grade and can remember pointing at everything in the store that I just "had to have". I also remember going to the theater and my friends and I watched a play type thing. It had short snippets from each of the historical dolls stories (we were all a little frightened in some parts) and at the end they sung the American Girl Doll song "See my sparkle
My spirit
My own kind of style
Inside me I feel it
And I want to smile

Hey! hey! hey!
Take a good look at me
I'm glad to be an American Girl! " That's the only part I can remember from the song and i bet if you ask my mom she can remember it too haha, I still have the CD somewhere.

Lol now the ad at the bottom of the page is for American Girl Dolls. That reminds me of a game for the computer I had where you could make plays for each of the dolls. My cousin, my sisters and I would spend all afternoon playing it. Sometimes even my brother would come up with them, so funny!

Yes that's the one!! Wonder if the game will still work in my laptop because I would loveee to watch some of those plays we made again lol

They are expensive, you're right. I wouldn't encourage anyone who couldn't afford them to buy one. If you can afford to buy your daughter one and know it's something she'll like, they're amazing gifts.

I disagree with you, even if it is a stretch for some to buy they create memories that will last you a lifetime. My CP has 25 of them that she got between the ages of 5-12. I have an American Girl room in my home where they are all displayed. I looked forward several times a year to taking her to American Girl Place in NYC and celebrating, getting their hair done etc. those are memories we will always have even though she has outgrown them and moved onto other things. I too was very spoiled and I spoil my daughter as well. I also teach her the value of sharing and giving to others. Each year I donate an American Girl doll because I feel every girl should have the chance to enjoy them as much as mine did.

Yes! To others they're just dolls, but they were my prized possessions for years. I always had plenty when friends came over to play, and I could go into my own world for hours. I had a big corner of my room that was the American Girl corner with all their furniture and clothes and the dolls themselves. I'm keeping them around to pass down to my daughters. I'd buy my daughter an AG doll over an ipad any day.

I love that you donate them. I gave my girls' dolls, clothes, accessories to my sister for my nieces but they're too young to play with them yet. Even though mine only played with them for a few years, they really enjoyed them. They preferred the modern ones and the ones that looked liked them.

The American girl store was amazing, the original ones at least. I've been to the one in Chicago and the St. Louis one and they're smaller and more low key, like you just stop there on your shopping trip. the one in NYC is huge though.

Have you been to the one in Chicago since it went into Water Tower Place? It's definitely as big as the NYC store now. Sadly, my child does not like them. :( :( :( So we've only been a handful of times. I walk past it almost every day and I want to go in! But I only go at Christmas for gifts and occasionally I can get my daughter to eat there. Lame.

I don't think so, but if it is that's awesome! I loved American girl so it's probably a good thing I always lived a couple hours from a store...

You're from Missouri, right? They put in one at Oak Park Mall in Olathe Ks a couple years ago! It's about 15-20 minutes from downtown KC!

I had seven AG dolls and a Bitty Baby. I was always too afraid to really play with them because their hair was so perfect, and I knew they cost a lot so I was afraid to mess them up! Although, I loved to change their outfits and do fashion shows with my best friend and her sister, who also had a lot of them. My mom was awesome and always got the replica of my cheer uniform for my favorite doll and we took her to comps and stunted with her. Her legs are a little wiggly now :) They're all currently packed nicely away so that when I have little girls in plus or minus 10 years, they can play with them too.

Aww, all this talk about American Girl dolls makes me miss being little. :( I had a bitty baby and one of the ones you could personalize. My sister had a bitty baby, and even though he will deny it, my brother had the bitty twins (lol). All three of us really enjoyed playing with them together. We each bought them with Christmas/Birthday money because our parents knew if we saw how expensive they were, we would treat them better. I can't wait to get them to my future daughter/niece when they're old enough :)
