The decision for X5 to go Restricted in Dallas was not an easy one for the coaches or the athletes but has been nothing but good one since they did a few weeks ago.... No team is guaranteed a jacket in any division, so to say that we went restricted just to get jackets is crazy... The division has some really great teams (incidently X5 lost to Cosmic Rays, a "true" restricted team a week ago, so there goes the theory that they are an amazing restricted team)... If you go back and watch videos from when they competed as a Large Senior team, count the double fulls, kick double baskets and standing fulls they are throwing then you make the call as to whether or not they are really "a true large senior team"... At the end of the day, all they did was take the "Worlds" pressure off of the team and allowed some of our 10-11 year old junior 5 kids to compete with the "bigger" kids.. Good Luck to everyone competing and may the odds be in your favor.
I don't understand why people are arguing about x5 still after this post! The decision has been explained, and it's not like the skills not allowed in Restricted are going to be used competing against the restricted teams. if that makes sense... they are still judged on how they do in THIS division just like the other teams in this division. X5 is always a great team to watch, I can't wait to see videos!

I totally get this. If it were me I'd avoid small senior and small coed. Even if you get at large in the bid fest, you'd have to contend with preliminaries. You skip those in large coed and large senior regardless of your bid. They even have medium AG and Medium Coed down in the book as having prelims on Saturday and there won't be many teams cut from those divisions...but it wouldn't be fun to be one of them if you knew you couldn't contend.

I mean, the reality is, if you want to get the most experience possible at worlds, you go into a division with the fewest teams to compete against. I certainly wouldn't pick small all girl or coed for darn sure, nor at this point, would I pick medium all girl or coed. All four of those divisions are ridiculously stacked and getting into the top 10 in any of them is going to be a blood bath. You are guaranteed two days of competition in large all girl and definitely have a "better" shot at making finals in large coed than you would any other division.

I don't think any of the continuing discussion is specifically about X5. Just making general statements/opinions.

Agreed. My cp is sitting with an at large in medium coed and I'll say I'm a bit nervous for that whole preliminary prospect. I'm realistic about where they are. They're great kids who have packed on so many skills and grown like crazy this year. They always do a great job on the mat and perform well and I'm super proud of them (and they have the prettiest uniform in the program....possibly only for another 5 days but still :) )But, that division is just crazy deep. I can name ten heavy hitter medium coed teams right now that will make finals and probably 7 of those could take gold on any given day. It will be quite a show. I haven't paid as much attention to medium AG because I don't have a kid there, but I expect it will be the same. That seemed like the division with the most opportunity last year and clearly gyms took that opportunity. That division is stacked this year. But that's how it should be.

Obsession went into finals last year sitting in 8th place. We were scared to death we wouldn't even make finals. Ended up in 3rd overall. That's how crazy deep medium coed is. One or two mistakes and you are out of finals completely. Ugh.

They're one of the 7 in my mind that can take the whole thing. But they've got 6ish others that are just as capable. It's going to be a battle of who hits cleanest. Can't wait to watch the show. We can do so stress free, my cp's team isn't at NCA so we can just enjoy the show. I'll throw up during large coed. :D

Can I just say that is straight up insanity taking a team of 21 into that division? They don't split that division so Starz will be facing a fully loaded Redemption, Spice, WC, and ACE. I understand the whole "David and Goliath" idea but damn.
Weakest link becomes alternate, and go full team into small.

Would you say then that a sr. 5 team can drop down to say a sr. 3 team and it would be ok? They wouldn't be using their level 5 skills and only would be judged on what they did in level 3.

I know it happens. I know teams with a bunch of crossovers and I've competed against that before. If your skills are better, you are going to win. But also, I've seen amazing level 3 teams with clean tumbling and I've seen level 5 teams with sloppy tumbling... so it still would come down to the execution of the skills in the level the team is competing in.

What if a team had to declare its level at the beginning of the season and if they drop below that level for any competition that becomes their level the remainder of the season. in the case of a Worlds team dropping to R5 they become ineligible for worlds that year. Would definitely make programs think twice.

There clearly needs to be a rule implimented about this ..I can NOT name another amateur sport this is legal in . I will speak of baseball as I am very familiar with the rules . If a team enters a tournement as a "major team " and wins no matter how small the tournement is they can't enter ANYTHING lower than "major " no 'AAA"or "AA" for the rest of the season without changing more than 50% of their roster. This is the rule in select basketball as well, therfore this would eliminate ALL this nonsense at all levels. It is crazy to think its ALL about winning a jacket instead of the teams that have been together since summer working towards a goal .

I agree 100%. Lg R5 is not an easy division, there are a lot of talented teams in that division. I was watching this division at spirit sports and thought I was watching a worlds division!

Our large junior 2 faced a sandbagging team that was a majority if kids from that gym's medium coed team. We figured we didn't have a chance. The gym's athletes posted things like "going to Dallas to pick up my jacket". Even with a stunt fall on day 2 they still assumed they won, including saying "hope you like 2nd place" during awards.
We won. It was probably the best win cp has had in her time cheering. The other team proceeded to get ripped by their coaches and parents...then changed into their level 5 uniforms.
Karma is a b because that gym no longer exists anymore.
Moral of the story is just because a team sandbags doesn't automatically mean they will walk away with the jacket.
