As a teacher, if I see a kid doing _____ and he gets hurt, I don't have the option to say "I didn't know not doing ____ was a school rule."

I have nothing to add other than Jesus be a USASF rule book for all involved. Amen.

To be honest, I did not read the whole contents in one sitting and I actually thought it was the same person.. I know, I read post in the past, where people started off revealing some information and then later added and included more and more information... I thought this was the case...:stupid:

Wondering how many coaches are not aware of an athlete not being able to compete for more than 1 gym at a competition?

More than should exist. You'd be shocked at the amount of completely ignorant coaches are out there.

No, they understood because we made sure they knew exactly what we were asking: we were subbing one of our girls who was too sick to compete with another girl, from another gym, that competed in the prior session, that was not part of our roster. They told us it was completely fine and that we don't even have to tell them we are doing it that we can just do it. I'm not saying it's ethical. I'm just saying, that's what they told me and the gym owner. Again, this is our first year as an allstar program, our first year competing at big competitions, the first time that situation had ever happened. I'm not saying it's ethical, but from that experience and by what they told us, it sounds like gyms do it all the time. I'm not saying it's right though, but in my situation, I felt like my choices were to sub her or compete with only two out of three stunts because our team only has 12 girls. And if they were telling me it was fine, I felt like it wasn't big deal. I'm sorry.
In your situation I don't think it really came down to mattering of legal not legal (and yes I know I may hear it for that - and I get we have declared what occurred illegal). Personally you involved both gyms and the EP you had a sudden sickness and everyone was on board to me that sounds like true sportsmanship and adults getting past all of the garbage to let children enjoy their sport and show what all the hardwork is for. Sometimes in life you have to look at the bigger picture and yes sometimes adults can join together and say here is this small little comp for this small little gym will not effect Worlds, Summitts, US Finals but not being able to run the routine could effect these kids who worked their tushes off and we adults get it and want to ban together to give them this chance. I would not apologize on here for making a choice that was pro-kids. Mind you I am one of those SERIOUS rule following people but sometimes in certain scenarios rules need to be set aside and kids need to be put first. Kudos to you, the EP, and other gym for working together for this sport. I think it has been clearly said you need to learn the rules and I am betting that will happen based on this thread alone. I would also encourage you all to either fundraise or do something to get some USASF safety certification and other trainings if you can for the coaches and owner. If my kids team was going against this team I would still be okay with this scenario. By the way I have seen this occur in softball, soccer, and basketball, and swimming where adults say let the kids do the sport make the moment truly about getting the kids to go out and do their best even if it means sharing teammates to do that and personally I have found them to really show the true essence of sportsmanship. ALL this said the initial post was about a team doing this on the side shady and a kid lying - not the same thing and not okay.

My daughter has a neighborhood friend who cheers at a different gym. Everyone knew this gym was putting junior aged athletes on youth teams, seniors on junior teams, and even a coach on a senior co-ed team. When I tried to explain to her mom that her 5'6" 12 year old (as of that May) should be on a junior team rather than the 2 youth teams she competed on, she told me that the coaches said they performed in a "different league" than we did (even though I pointed out we were at several of the same competitions). They were finally found out last year and immediately told all the parents that the rules suddenly changed. My neighbor 100% believes the gym owner and as far as I know, they faced no repercussions.

Well now doesn't this story sound familiar for some reason. Did you tell us this before?

Thank you for empathizing. To all that are reading and that have commented, I know this thread turned into something more than the original post and I got a lot of heat and criticism. I do understand that what occurred was actually illegal and had I read and studied everything, I would have known that but I swear to you, I have NEVER been part of or coached an allstar program in my whole existence, so yes, I was ignorant to the rules. I've only coached rec cheer prior to this and was asked to coach this team because the person that was supposed to coach decided to move away. I understand there is a lot to learn and our gym and our parents are learning together. Yes, that's scary but also exciting at the same time because these girls have potential.

It is a volunteer job and I do my best to coach these girls and make sure their routine is level appropriate, yes, I've read up on all the level rules. 100% of these girls have never competed as allstars. Jamfest was their first big competition and most expensive. I didn't know what I was supposed to do when one of my girls was balling that she couldn't perform because she was too weak. All I could do was explain my dilemma to the Jamfest ladies and made it clear that the sub was not on our roster and had competed with another gym earlier that day and they said yes. I would not have done it if, when I asked, and they said no and/or quoted the rule. And what my sub did was base a prep lib as a support (not main base), an extension cradle, a prep in the pyramid, and back spotted a basket. We are level 2. Although safety was a concern, I had confidence that these level 2 stunts would be all right because my sub had experience basing in level 2. In the routine, she walked in to base, then walked back to the back to kneel for the next stunt. Just so everyone knows, we didn't get first but we had a good time and the girls learned what it was like to to pull together and work as a team through adversity and that was my proudest moment as a coach.
