Yeah I don't know that what she said was accurate about the girl in question as I just watched the video of SJX from the last competition a couple of pages back and said girl was on the team at least for that performance. I would agree the information is most likely coming from social media but I was also concerned.

I did get that wrong. Well the info wasn't incorrect but I was talking about one person and the other poster was talking about another person. Mix up between people. You are 100% correct, the person that the poster was talking about is def on SJX and SSX this season. I thought he was talking about a girl who was on SJX last season and is on SE this season. You are right, wrong doing on my part.

Mix up was easy to do when not using minors names (for obvious reasons)

I just find it very odd how someone can know so much about all things cheer, when they say they have no cheerleading background, all the info is from social media, and then they post it as facts.
I think the ask.fm accounts contribute to a lot of why outsiders know so much about the inner workings of certain teams, some of the kids will basically answer anything and everything...

I assume this is about me?
9/10 I have said where I got the information from (for example twitter, ask.fm) then the person reading can decide whether they trust that source to be reputable. I would never and have never said I know this because I've talked to/am bff's with cheerleader XYZ because I'm not, I would always say XYZ posted on their instagram, or XYZ tweeted this. It's not ME asking them questions about their lives etc, its all just stuff they have posted on accounts that is relevant to the convo going on.

I don't have a cheerleading background at all, it's just something I am interested in. Coming in as an outsider who has never heard of cheer before about 2010, the easiest way for me to learn all about it was to follow cheerleaders on twitter etc. Those kids post their entire lives on their so its there on my timeline. Allstar cheer is a fascinating world.

I hope y'all don't think I stalk twitter every day following cheerleaders every move and have personal files of all the info they post on their social media accounts, because I assure you (and this is a fact ;) ) I don't. I am sorry if that is the impression I give off.

So true, though I still find it quite strange that someones education from cheer (and all these children's personal lives) are only from these kind of outlets. Very scary actually...

I hope you realise that I follow cheerleaders on twitter in the same way that thousands do - because I am a fan of them. What they post is what they post. I don't think it is my fault that they post their drivers lisence and mobile numbers on social media. That's not the type of things I follow them for. I don't follow them to find out their personal information. I love seeing pictures of the teams working hard at practice, their motivational tweets and their tweets about their teams etc. Its very inspiring. Definitely makes me wish I could cheer.
If the accounts I follow are run properly then all I and the hundreds of thousands of other fans should be seeing are the above types of things, not suzies home address.

However I do 100% agree with your comments - It can be worrying that all I know of cheer is from fierceboard and twitter and you are completely entitled to that opinion because every body knows the dangers of the internet!
I can assure you that I am just a normal person, interested in cheer without first hand experience - however since there is zero way of ever proving that I would never try and argue that point. You are completely entitled to that and very just in what you are saying :)

Where I live cheerleading is pretty much non existent. I don't know a single person close to where I live that knows or is interested in anything to do with cheer. I found cheer on youtube.

General comment:

I think it just kind of skeeves people out because it's not like ME fanigirling the Lakers who are all adults.

Cheer is mostly a sport of MINORS. Like, the youngest Y5 kiddos at some of the larger gyms are what - 7 or 8?

Adults (particularly those without a cheer background) fangirling them is a little strange.

Ex: I cringe a little when I see a grown adult male (like, the kind of grown adult male that is NOT a coach) commenting on a cheerleader's instagram or FB.

I wish people would stop saying that these certain athletes are famous. Maybe well known in the cheerleading world. But who else knows them? Where will being a cheerlebrity get you in the real world when you can't cheer anymore? We are all athletes/coaches who are human, some better than others skill wise. However the same in reality.

Regardless, it still means approx 5k people just saw their address, phone #, etc. And that's already one too many...now multiplied by one thousand. I think that was/is the main point.

I don't think I'm on the same page as you. I was just giving my 2cents lol I apologize if I offended anyone with my opinion.

No worries, I'm not offended :) I didn't intend to quote you bc I thought what you had to say is terrible, it just lent an opportunity to express why parents (and others) are so concerned w/some of this.

Eta- the day I get personally offended by something someone said on an online forum (or online in general) by someone I've never met is the day I will take a step back and reevaluate my priorities.. :) That's not to say I can't be very opinionated and/or vent, but I mean like genuinely offended.
