All-Star How Competetive Are College Cheer Try Outs Getting?

Scholarships and other assistance vary GREATLY by school. I'd contact programs and ask.

I've seen scholarship offerings looking like:

Ex: School A might waive out of state tuition for Large Coed only. Others get small scholarships.

School B might pay room and board for comp squad only.

School C might have full tuition for those on the comp team but book scholarships for all others.

Big differences in all 3.

So you guys are making me feel a lot better about my tryout on Sunday.
-I both fly and base
-I have tons of gameday experience
-I know how to look the part (my school recently switched to UCA style)
-I'm always early & never talk back to a coach

The only thing I'm worried will hold me back is tumbling. It's been hard to regain my skills after an injury and I'm gonna keep working through the summer. But thanks for all the advice guys and you're probably all sick of me posting 104995940 times how nervous I am haha but I want this so badly

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

It sure does vary GREATLY! I got a scholarship that basically only covered books. But I happily took what I could get :)

Ahhh, and we want you to make it! Is this your only college cheer tryout or do you have interests in other schools?

For tumbling, just throw the skills that are , to quote Stick It, "clean, safe a guaranteed to stick". Depending on how much time you get to warm up maybe warm up the pass you're a little iffy about but don't throw it when you perform your skills for the judges. They might (or might not) pay close attention to everyone warming up. If they do, they can see your harder skill and even if you bomb it warming up they will see you throw the cleaner skill an be like "she's smart, she knew that pass was iffy so she made a good choice to go with the clean one" well, maybe they would. That's what I'd think anyways.

Anyways, good luck!!! My only other advice is to be confident no matter how nervous you are. Like I said before, my coach is still finalizing out roster and one thing (besides motions) that she's not sure if she wants to take a certain girl is because she didn't seem to confident. So even if you're terrified, fake it till you make it!

I got the same back in the day, plus all travel, attire, and camp costs paid.

It just makes me laugh REALLY HARD when I hear parents/kids say "Well, we're only interested in schools where she can get a full ride with cheer so we don't have to pay anything."

Oh honey.

So how early is to early to attend college clinics? Cp wants to go to UNT's clinic this upcoming year and she will be in 7th grade. Her reasoning is she needs to start coed stunting now.
I've also seen people start as early as 8th grade but I don't want to be "that mom".

...I hope to God that 7th grade is too early.

I knew where I wanted to go to school basically from 10th grade on (well, I had it narrowed down to five) and by the middle of junior year I was fairly certain I'd be going to the school I went to. I don't even think I knew my alma mater existed when I was in 7th grade.

My 2 CP's are 4th and 7th grade. They think they have it all planned out and want to attend the TCLM Stunt Clinic put on with the Cheerleader Magazine at WE. Not only are they young, but this stuff is really expensive. :/

Good luck! Don't let your weakness define you at your tryout! Show off the skills you are good at and then show the coaches that you can and are ready to work harder and grow as an athlete.
