I definitely get where everyone is coming from, on the topic on changing gyms. But I personally don't get why there's so much hate...
Coming from me, I live in a whole state where there is one gym that can field all levels (except 6). All other gyms can't get past level 2 or 3.
So what I'm trying to say is...if I'm really, honestly dedicated to this sport, and I work hard to get level 5 skills, I want to have a chance. I would send in a video tryout. Just to see if my work paid off. See if I really could compare to the amazing athletes from around the world. And it would be a dream come true to make the team, but all I really want is a chance. Smoed gives athletes a chance.

And Smoed would be the ONLY team accommodating to an athlete that had interest in moving for cheer? Are there no other really talented teams that would consider putting them on their team? Perhaps because people think they are guaranteed a ring and cheerlebrity status if they're on that team with a web series?

I wonder why Robert was at the practice last night. He posted a pic on twitter that said first practice and was in practice gear. He aged out no?

why would a cea athlete go all the way to cali in hopes for a ring, why not just try out for SE, granted they didnt have the best season this year, but still. plus i wouldnt be surprised if SSX wins worlds within the next two years to be honest. i love LB but i was shocked when they got 3rd.
plus i feel bad for these lower level CA athletes, clearly smoed is a long shot of a team to get on anymore, which leaves one less level 5 team to advance to.

The CEA athlete didn't just move to be on smoed her parents got a new job. She said she was moving because her parents got a new job and wanted to be on smoed. So sounds like her parents looked for a job in california found one and then she was able to tryout. Had no idea who this girl was until I checked her out from cheerupdates post and looked at her twitter.

Does anyone know if Cali/Smoed or Top Gun actually gets in contact with these people to say they are interested in them and invite them to send a video tryout?

It just makes me wonder because there isn't as many high profile out of state kids on SE or Lady Lightning for example, who are both jacket/globe/ring contenders year after year just as Smoed are.

No, they do not recruit specific athletes. They will at times post on twitter or facebook for example: looking for level 5 male athlete.

...I'm not so sure about the job market in California (I was just googling and it's conflicting reports). But I can't imagine there are so many jobs that people can just conveniently find them at leisure (to the point where it's easy to move/sell a house) wherever they want. Suppose it depends on where you're coming from.

I wonder how much of it is 'oh we're moving for a job' and 'oh we'll move and see about the job thing.' If you're in tech/IT it's one thing, but most other things are pretty tight. For those Super Senioring- if it's so easy to get replaced on Smoed, what happens if you don't like your school? What if you lose your spot? THEN what happens?

PS- whatever happens to all those Top Gun boys who move to Miami and are done cheering/not on 005? How many stay in the area? How many stay in cheer? What is their life like afterwards? Or to Cali? (Seems like those are the big ones where there are people moving JUST for cheer).

My brother moved to FL last summer solely to play baseball and stayed with a host family. My parents thought long and hard but they could afford it, trusted the family and it was a good opportunity so he took it.

My dad is moving to Nevada for work, and you better believe if I was a level 5 athlete I would be going with him and trying out for Aces.

I can understand it. I think the webseries makes people want to tryout for Smoed as well. The show makes it look awfully challenging, and if you've accomplished enough at your home gym, push yourself here. That's how I see it.

A friend of mines brother is really competitive in skating and moved to MTL and did online schooling and stayed with a host family as well to be able to skate there. So, I get relocating when there is a really good opportunity. But he moved because there wasn't much opportunity where we live and his goal is the olympics I think...or it was anyway not sure about now.

But these cheer athletes are moving and relocating when they have AWESOME gyms in their area so I really don't understand the moving thing. I used to live in maryland and I drove an hour and a half to practice and cheer at maryland twisters but that's reasonable lol I still lived in my house and state.

It's just strange that it feels like it used to be make the L5/6 team at your uber successful world champ gym and you've accomplished it all but now it's seems to be all that PLUS make/survive Smoed.

There's always the chance these people are military. All military people aren't stationed near bases
