I've seen some posts from these videographers and photographers that are more well known for doing these things and to me, on social media, some of them do come across creepy and stalkerish. How many times do we have to see them say how "beautiful" and "wonderful" and "gorgeous" etc. the cheerleaders are that they are referring to. Just ew. These are grown men!

Do you live in my head?

You have to admit though, it's excellent publicity for the photographers. ABC Images posts a picture of Chelsea Cheetah and tags her in it, and gets 200+ new followers just like that. Everyone on a team tags ABC Images in their pictures (which makes sense to me because it's their pictures), and all their little followers go and at least check out their page. Some of those cheerleading photographers are (I'm not saying the most popular, but) more popular than the average photographer on Instagram just because of who they're photographing. Not saying it's not creepy, but they're just doing it for personal gain.

That isn't really what I was talking about. That is what it is. But the way they talk about and to these underage girls is what people find creepy. The fact they're videoing and photographing these underage girls might make some folks side eye them in the first place. But add all the adjectives and the fawning over, etc., well, again, ew.

I'm going to edit this and add, it is not all of the photogs and videographers I'm referring to. There is one who I actually follow on IG that I think does a wonderful job. His pictures are beautiful and he posts them without all the extraneous stuff.

Ahh, I understand that more!

Plus, I think that frequently referring to girls as "pretty" or "beautiful" just make cheer people in general seem superficial. After all, they're in these photos and videos because of their skill, not their looks (though some are highly celebrated for the latter).

I was starting to think I was the only one who thought that was weird!

I could not agree more and have felt this way for a long time but didn't post anything because everyone seems to think some of this video guys walk on water. A grown man should not be tagging an underage athlete in a tweet with the hashtag #wcw, Just eww. Or posting multiple times a day about how beautiful or wonderful a 16 year old girl is. I used to really enjoy the videos but now they have become ways for people to pimp out their kid to become the next big thing.
@BowCat You were lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the greatest kids in the sport. There is a huge difference between a CA Cheerlebrity vs. a CEA cheerlebrity vs. a Cali one. I think that all comes down to the coaching and the expectations they have for their kids on social media.

the only videos i like are the 2by2 videos, however i wish they would video other programs... i also dont get how that really works, does the athlete pay him to follow them around all season or does the gym, cause he's been taking video of CA athletes for so long and nothing else for the past cheer season or two.

I think he also does Stingrays? I remember seeing things about him filming for them but maybe the videos he did for them aren't finished yet. Not sure.

He works with certain teams within CA. So on Panthers he has a certain amount of slots that he has for individual videos and I think each family pays him separately? And then there's a year end vid of Panthers/Cheetahs because he goes to enough comps where he can film them there to have a video. He does other gyms too I think but CA is a huge part of his clientele!

I think that it's a given that people are going to end up being popular for what they do/their talent, but it really bothers me when the athletes advertise. You shouldn't just be using your popularity to make money and get free products. I miss when everyone was just popular for talent, not looks or from getting shoutouts from other accounts, etc. :(

I will say it again if one of my CP's could get paid for advertising a kid appropriate product (tennis shoes, backpacks, etc.) and remain humble and a good role model, I would not complain one bit! I am really surprised it bothers so many people. You could even put that money away in a College fund for your CP.
