unfortunately bad press can be good press, so it clearly looks like its working in her favor. i dont agree with it, cause i dont understand how killing an essentially fenced in animal is considered hunting. but there are people out there who support what she is doing, so i guess thats all she needs to gain attention and a show. i wonder what the school and athletics program thinks of all this, with all the publicity she is getting.

in her defense people do eat elephant in africa. just like people eat cats and dogs in korea and vietnam, horse in asia and japan, and whale meat in japan.

Hunting is never pretty and people that don't like it, won't like it under any circumstances. From what I can see, she wasn't breaking any laws, so I don't have a problem with it.

And I always love the comments about what she could have done or should have done with the money. Same could be said of the thousands of dollars spent on cheer every year.

She should have spent her 160k on peoples cheerleading?

She would have made more people happy that post here!

since i made a comment about her $ spent, i'll bite.

i don't have a problem with anyone hunting for food. i, myself, have an ultimate goal of living off the land and am making significant progress with a large garden and other resources. i get it. while i don't want to hunt, i have no issues with its original, intended purposes.

she isn't killing to eat, nor is she killing out of self defense. she is killing beautiful, majestic creatures. creatures that her future kids probably will only ever read about in textbooks because she's killing off some of the very few we have left. and she isn't even killing them fairly, in the wild. she's inside of a game "farm" where the animals are fenced in with no where to go. that doesn't require skill. there was a quote i read from her somewhere about how she was killing off the weak links, and survival of the fittest, and she's basically improving the population, blah, blah, blah. no. survival of the fittest was thrown out the window when you confined all of the animals inside four walls.

i commented on spending that money on actually providing resources or viable livestock for the villagers, because she is trying to write off her killings as doing a favor to the locals and feeding the hungry. if they were starving and wanted to kill the elephants/cheetahs/lions/rhinos inside of the fenced in farm to eat, they would have already. they don't need her to do that for them. i don't care how anyone spends their money. but be honest about it. just say, "hey, i love killing endangered animals for fun." don't make up some BS about how you're saving the world so you can sleep better at night.

Just out of curiosity, because the fact that she's a cheerleader has been made quite a big deal in the media. Is she still a cheerleader at TT? And if so, have they said anything on the issue? I doubt that kind of publicity is something the school will love.

@njallday

I should have been more specific in my comments about the money spent. I really wasn't addressing anyone in this thread, really more the comments that have been posted on other social media.

You have objections and they're reasonable. Ignoring the cost, I don't think I could do it. But I also haven't seen anything disputing her version other than individuals that disagree with it in general.

I agree with everything you've said. I personally would never partake in hunting, but I understand the need for it every time I'm driving home at night and can look over and see the glistening eyes of several deer....and when deer run out in front of my car in residential neighborhoods, or when alligators show up at libraries and shopping centers (yes) here. So yes. Hunting it you're going to consume the meat....it's fine. I won't do it or eat it but sure. I mean it was us that infringed upon their habitats...but you know...whatever now. I guess.

This girl has spent $160k on a hunting trip. She credits visiting a village in Zimbabwe and seeing underprivileged children in 3rd world country...and how they lived......as the reason she wanted to strap on a gun and shoot exotic animals.....I guess to feed her fascination with their culture? I don't get it.

I'm sure $160k spent in other ways could have gone a long way in they village in other ways. But it's not our place to tell her how to spend her money....

My mom's side raised cattle, pigs and chickens for food and income. None of them looked at killing their animals as game or sport, it was their job. They would shoot the "weak links", "runts", or "disabled" because they didn't have the time or resources to take care of them and they knew out on their own, they would be killed by outside sources and that would draw packs of unwanted animals near the farm. None of the siblings continued farming as adults, they all said it took a toll on them mentally and physically and white collar jobs were much easier. However, with that said, they tend to be very quick to set us city folk straight when we define cruelty to animals. They consider an animal cooped up in a home with a 10 foot lead as their source of freedom much more cruel than an animal living outside with a quick shot to end its life. I guess it is all in one's perspective.

I just did a quick search and it turns out that elephants for example are actually wrecking havoc in Zimbabwe at the moment due to their overpopulation.

So, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt (or rather me not knowing a whole lot about animal populations in certain areas in Africa) and believe that she MIGHT be convinced that she's doing nature and humans there a favour and that she is not illegally killing endangered animals.
BUT what really rubs me off the wrong way are the pictures, she's taking of herself and the dead animals. If she has any respect for nature and is truly interested in securing wildlife, she wouldn't pose this arrogantly and disrespectfully with the animals she just killed.

I don't really care how people spend their money, but I don't like voluntourism. "Help me fundraise for my trip to Africa to help the poor, impoverished children." Those kids that don't those trips don't have any experience. They don't know how to build a school, or treat sick people. They go and visit an orphanage and they pose for some pictures with some cute African babies and pat themselves on the back for helping out Africa.

Yes it is legal, but these animals are endangered! I am shocked at how many people are standing up for the idea of hunting amazing endangered animals that are fenced inside game areas. I am going to have to stop reading this thread because I do realize I am biased and I am starting to get very emotional. :(
