I hear you on air fare. Right now getting to the allstar games is anywhere from 550-700 a ticket from Charlotte to Vegas! LA for champions league is running the same. I found LA airfare today out of Raleigh for 378 each and jumped on it. The boys have to drive three hours to and from the airport but it's better than $600 each! I'd die for a $288 to Vegas. It used to run that cheap from Charlotte back in the day but apparently not anymore.

Can I get a Black Friday sale?! Anyone, anyone?!

I've heard several teams had to back out of CL because airfare to LA was so expensive from their area of the country. We got lucky...I was able to get 4 round trip tickets from DAL to LA back to DAL for under a grand. Not sure what I would've done if airfare was $600 each!!!

That's the reason why we decided not to do the Champions League this year. I couldn't make my families spend that much money or else I would have a broke team

We had the honor of being invited but being on the East Coast, being unexpected, team of mostly young adults with no $ and with parents who have to go Myrtle Beach with a couple crossovers or siblings the following weekend. It was not doable! Very proud coaches though!

If I was going for a Summit bid I would SO be in Minnesota this weekend. Sure it's probably like Iceland up there this time of year but I saw on Athletic's page that they're giving out 6 Summit bids (1 paid, 5 at large) and there's only like 30 teams on the schedule...

Correct. There's like 50 some teams registered, because it's a brand new competition. Of course, this week we've had 3 athletes randomly injured in the last 48-36 hours and have to completely change 3 teams' routines. Wish us luck! ;-)

But actually it's going to be warm this weekend! Around 30*!

For those parents whose team accepted a WC bid this early in season. What do u think of that? Being either they get a FP bid or have to compete in prelims to move on.

After reading all of this I cannot understand why anyone would pay about $1000 pp to go to the Summit with a wildcard bid. It seems very expensive for a slight chance of competing at the real Summit event.

Agreed, BUT if you have a child who is on a Youth 5 or Junior 5, think about how many there even are across the country, not that many, chances are you are going thru to Saturday regardless, because no one else is competing Friday because they have at large bids, or they MIGHT be competing against 1 or 2 teams. Its lot higher of a chance for them. Just one view point. :)

ACE Aztecs J2 got a wildcard bid this past weekend at UCA Jackson. The parents met tonight about it and I believe they voted to accept it. I skimmed the comp schedule and out of all their comps on the schedule, maybe one is giving out bids? And I want to say it's like 2-3 weeks before the Summit. Risky. It was wayyyy smarter to take the WC bid. Something like that could be a factor for a lot of teams accepting them so early.
ETA: I'm totally out of it, apparently. (I've been coughing my lungs up for three days and finally went to the doctor today... They just said sorry and gave me stronger cough syrup) I meant to write one FP and maybe 5 AL bids, but it's a huge comp with a lot of talent. And, again, 2 weeks prior to the Summit. Better to start planning now, I guess.
ETA again: they aren't just going to "nowhere" comps either. They just aren't bid comps. Ex: Cheersport Atlanta.

Small or Large J2? Our J2 large will be fighting for a paid bid at American Grand this weekend in Vegas.
