one of my coworkers doesn't believe in vaccines and it is the most frustrating/scary thing ever.
Is your coworker Jenny McCarthy, by chance?

I wish you could see how worked up one of my best friends (who is currently finishing up pharmacy school) gets over her. And the rest of the "vaccines cause autism/cancer/whatever" crowd. Withholding vaccines for these communicable diseases is NOT JUST ABOUT YOUR CHILD. It's about the health of everyone they come in contact with as well.

And while it's not in the "communicable disease" category, I always get a good laugh when that Gardasil article pops up. The one from the CLEARLY fake news website claiming a doctor finally came out and said the Gardasil vaccine is "all a deadly hoax". Ok....what. My friend actually shared that on facebook proclaiming how proud she was to not get this vaccine and how it basically sucks that so many of her friends will probably die now that they got it. And how she was glad she chose this vaccine as a topic of some research paper she did. 1. Hope you didn't cite that clearly fake webpage as actual news 2. If millions of people's lives were now in danger because they got this shot don't you think it would be getting SOME kind of press coverage somewhere else? Maybe?

(I have a lot of friends who chose not to get that shot and that's totally fine. I'm really just laughing at the ones who think it's some kind of giant medical coverup and that they have been secretly euthanizing the population with it)

Literally exactly like the law and order svu episode where a baby died because she was too young to get the measles vaccine but a kid in the park had measles cause his mom didn't believe in vaccines and the baby got it and died :( they tried to arrest the mom but it didn't hold up in court because it's her choice which sucks.

There's an outbreak right now in California: (I wrote a thing) Measles Outbreak Traced to Disneyland Sickens Nine, Including Infants - Christine Rousselle

Nine confirmed cases. Eight were not vaccinated. The MMR vaccine is effective in 9 out of 10 cases. It's horrific. This disease was eradicated in 2000, but it's coming back because people are choosing to not protect their children.

and @cheerKT she actually said "maybe people in California aren't getting vaccinated because they're healthier." :banghead:

I'm honestly shocked it's not required for people to vaccinate their kids. Like you're literally putting everyone else at risk, not just your kid.

It is required--but people are allowed to opt out for personal or religious reasons. Each state has different standards of what is an acceptable reason.

I just want to clarify, my kid has had all vaccinations just not the flu shot. I'm not one of those people who don't believe in vaccinations ... I was just talking about flu shots when I have said we have never had one or the flu!

Yeah that's what I mean though. I understand you can't go against someone's religious beliefs, but when people opt out its putting so many kids at risk do many things. I don't know what would be a solution to it, but this is just a sucky subject.

No worries! This wasn't aimed at you. :)

I know we have a few parents on here that are in this category, so I'll try to tread lightly on this topic... But God this pi$$es me off. If you want to choose not to vaccinate your child that's fine (I mean, it's not, but whatever). But I really think this should mean you also "choose" to homeschool and "choose" not to have your child in dance (or cheer or whatever) and "choose" to keep your child away from mine.

Herd immunity is a thing. It's real. I don't get why people don't understand it.

I'm so tired of the standard "If your child is vaccinated, what are you worried about?" Do y'all not understand statistics, on top of not understanding science? If the vaccine is 99% effective, then 1 out of every 100 vaccinated children that are exposed to the disease will get it anyway. If no one has it to expose them to it, then no one will get it (because if 0 people are exposed, 1% of 0 is 0). If your child brings it to the school because they're not vaccinated and contracted it somewhere, then 300 people are exposed. If 1% get it, 3 of those people will get it. Those 3 people then go expose hundreds of other people. Then 1% of those people get it. And on and on.

This is how diseases are reintroduced into vaccinated populations. Like measles and pertussis are pretty common now, compared to 20 years ago.

It's not complicated or confusing. Your choices are selfish and detrimental to the health of others. And that is not OK. Period.

(so much for treading lightly! But this is just such an issue for me!)

Exactly what I was trying to say but didn't know how to word it.

*wags finger and nods head in agreement*

Yes. I love that.

I try to be open minded when it comes to decisions that interfere with people's religious beliefs but modern day science is making it increasingly harder to be that way...

Is there anyone that is really good at physics and could help me? I'm doing a project on Newton's 3 laws. Well as an example of the 1st law, I chose a basket toss. Would the forces be gravity, applied (upward), and air resistance or would it be like a projectile and be only gravity?

So like awhile ago I posted about a gym that said they'd pay me for designing shirts but hadn't paid me 3 months later.

Well, they still haven't paid me so I sent a harsher email to them a more aggressive email to them (because they haven't responded to my last three...) so fingers crossed they finally reply.

Can we help put some pressure on them for you?
