Not to mention the original point of kids not being able to attain the full skill set. It seems to me that unless you come from a gymnastics background you have to get an early start to build a full worlds skill set. I have a girlfriend who's daughter started at 12 and is an incredible flyer and is very athletic..but just can't get all her tumbling. It's as if she's just too old and her sense of self preservation in regards to running full speed and flinging her body through the air while twisting is a no go. She's been working at it for 4 years now. Now there is always an athlete that is an exception to that.. but getting started late in the game definitely impacts things too.
I have to agree and disagree at the same time... I believe on my daughter's team, she is the only one coming from a gymnastics background...Most have only been during cheerleading, coming up from Tiny teams and moved up through all levels. In case of my daughter, she has been tumbling the day after she started walking, rolling and flipping off the sofa...I signed her up for gymnastics after seeing it on TV and she at 3 or 4 copying the gymnasts on TV... To be honest, many of the Y5 athletes may have the innate talent for this sport, I really do not hear about these athletes spending gross amount of time in the gym, they seems to just do it... I see these athletes as no different from artists like Beethoven or Amadeus, they just do it!
I actually met some athletes who started late and are phenomenal tumblers, unfortunately most of these athletes are boys. I really think puberty dictates most things when it comes to tumbling, but at the same time, girls tend get stronger after puberty and can do phenomenal in stunting and basing, but everything is all about tumbling in cheerleading.

It's a fact. The percentage may drop to 80% at gyms like Cheer Athletics, California Allstars, Top Gun.. but it's simply a numbers versus skill set formula. 85-90% of the bulk of all gyms are athletes level 1-4. There are a number of gyms that do not even floor level 5's or maybe have 1 team. Majority of athletes will not advance pass level 4 and many that do will be used for their exceptional other skills sets...such as basing or flying but simply don't have the tumbling. I'd love to hear what the coach commenting above has to say. A large number of athletes mentally block at twisting or things start moving so fast and the pressure/time/effort/financial commitment prove to great. Even if a gym floors a team in every single worlds division let's say like a program like Cheer Athletics.. (and I'm not even sure they floor a team in every division - i think they actually don't) you're talking about a total of around 300 athletes on those teams. I'm not positive but I think Cheer Athletics has 4 locations, California All Stars is up to 6 or 7 and for each location they have 1 or 2 worlds teams. Obviously a big gym increases your chances but then you also have to factor in all the athletes that will come from small gyms and compete for those spots. Wow, you added so many facts, from kids not getting skills to small gyms, mega gyms. Did you also take into account that the cheerleading industry is growing, did you add that in your facts? I bet those numbers would change let's say in 3-5 years, gyms add multiple locations, meaning more level 5 teams. Some gyms have multiple level 5 teams from youth, jr, LG, small, Coed, all girl and open 5. The area we live at the majority of the gyms all have at least two or 3 level 5 teams. I'm not trying to argue with your facts but I guess where we live we don't have many small gyms that don't house level 5 teams. I hope your friends cp gets to experience cheering on a level 5, if she is an amazing flyer and athletic and can keep up with a level 5 routine I personally don't feel like her tumbling should keep her back. I know that there is some amazing flyers in some very well know world teams that don't tumble as the same level as their teammates and they are still an asset to their team, but if your friends cp doesn't make in a level 5 team there is always lv6 ;) because I think all levels From 1 to 6 are just as amazing as the others, at the end of the day I think all our kiddos work hard for where they end up.

A fact that you assume to be true or do you have proof of that statistic that you can cite?

I think those are HER facts! lol
Example: I think is a fact that I am the most patient, ,funny, understanding and coolest mother in the whole world, my CP would totally argue those facts!! Lol See how anyone can just throw facts out there like that ;)

Well actually, @crazzyeyesassypants I think with the other poster, you and she maybe quibbling over opinions finely laced with statistics to give illusion of authenticity.
For example, all the things you said about your greatness as a parent to your daughter is fact and can be probably corroborated by at least 2 people... However, anything your daughter may say to discredit your fact can merely be opinions and cannot be corroborated by at least 10 people... PS: We all know that the naysayer (daughter) in court must provide the heavier burden of proof...

I totally agree that it's all opinions with everything that has been posted by her and I. The only fact that I believe to be true is that we are all proud of our kids regardless what level they are on! [emoji4]

I still chuckle when I think of my 7 yr old son, who is 27 now, he was on a Basketball Rec team and his only claim to fame was being the tallest kid in the gym for his age...The coaches just assume he was going to be the next Shaq. I laugh because the coach told all the players to feed the ball to my son and when he got the ball, he took off with the ball into the bleachers and sat next to me in the crowd with the ball... Everybody found out together he was big, but not an athlete...That was his 1st and last game...lol

So according to the summit list all 8 youth 5 teams have a summit Wildcard bid now ... Hmm

And small j3 has over 30 wildcards ... So all but one of them are done competing friday! :/ that really sucks unless you want to spend your weekend at the park than that's a great idea!

I saw the J3 wildcards. That's just insane. I'm hoping our gym will choose to not accept a wildcard for our J3 if one is earned (literally only two available to us, so pretty unlikely anyway).

So any youth team that goes to Summit competes in the wildcard round. And the winner advances to "semi finals" on Saturday. Who would the winner compete against in semis and Finals?

Hahahaha!!!! Good question!

I just looked at the list and it is so curious....some divisions have hardly any WC bids, and some are chock-full, like small J-3 mentioned above. I wonder how that preliminary round will be set up Friday?
