water fountains arent always Cold either, especially with constant use which would be happening at a large gym like twisters, the water would be warm. and we all would feel like crap if we just got done doing a routine full out and running to a water fountain, and waiting in long lines just to get warm water.

So now we're insulting Tsunami? Please remember that there may be athletes reading this forum who were on Tsunami and who are not mixed up in this mess or this conversation. Please think about their feelings...
Oh come on now, let's not take this so seriously. Obviously as a Fmr Tsunami parent I actually found the water fountain issue a bit funny and so did most on the kids who read this! No insult intended as I clearly have always loved and supported Tsu

Reading these posts makes me sad. As a Maryland gym owner, it is very difficult to make it all work. It is a business (well, mine is a non profit, so making a living off of it is not a factor for me), but that does not mean that there was not angst involved with the closing of the Marlins gym. Gym owners, for the most part, go without so their gyms can make it financially and that can get wearing on the mind, heart and soul. I think both programs were/are great. There was a need for both as the atmosphere of the gyms were uniquely different. This does not mean this merge won't work. It means that it may not work for some. That is OK. There are SO many places to cheer in Maryland. There is a home for every cheerleader. It is a good thing we are not cookie cutters here. I love seeing and competing with the different organizations. It makes us all better. (Oh, and that water fountain? Yuck. But we do have refrigerator the kids can get water from...most of our water is donated, and we charge a dollar a bottle which we use to buy the kids something fun like an ice cream or pizza party, no child goes without water, so it can be done without a water fountain). I say embrace the change. Move if you need to, become a Twister if it feels right for your family. At the end of the day, that is SOMEBODY'S child on the floor, yours or mine, we need to make it positive.

I have been told they are not co-owners.
This is why I have a problem with the term "merger" and I don't feel that everyone should have had to pay again to tryout/register whatever. It's not the money. It's the principal.

And I think for safety reasons they should have a water fountain incase a kid drinks all of their water and has no money to buy one out of the machine.
merg·er/ˈmərjər/

Noun:
A combination of two things, esp. companies, into one.
Synonyms:
fusion - amalgamation - consolidation - union
Tara and Terri must have agreed on how they were bringing the two companies together whether there are percentages or not, profit sharing or not, really isn't any of our business. They are both involved, the staff is involved, the families are involved. Terri has been at the gym every day that I've been there since the merger and has a position with the Maryland Twisters. I don't understand why it matters to some if she has a percentage of ownership or profits.

What is your experience of the promote/demote policy for athletes during the preseason and during the season?

blingiton you are really trying to make this into a conspiracy. the twisters program has been nothing but accommodating to the the athletes that have come with the merger and somehow it is still not good enough.

in regards to the evaluation fee, EVERY athlete (returning or new) is required to pay it at the time of the try out regardless if they decide to cheer or not. while it may seem like a nonsensical fee to you, please consider the overhead costs that twisters incurred by hosting an open house for 4 hours on a day that the gym was not originally open... staff who worked the event have to be paid, the paper work has to be filed, athlete accounts need to be set up, and the costs need to be balanced just for this event.

for team placements, the coaches are trying their hardest to keep all of the marlins athletes together but it cannot be done at the expense of the veteran twisters who have been a part of the program prior to the merge. it is no secret that the talent pool at twisters exceeds nearly any place within 3 hours of the gym (you could argue that, but athletes don't travel across state lines for mediocrity), therefore what may qualify for a worlds team at one gym may not be the same at twisters. the program prides itself on having level appropriate teams for all levels/ages and that is a standard that will not be lowered. our athletes know that every spot must be earned, which is why we have athletes in the gym 7 days a week trying to improve their chances for making a desired team.

as always, if you people are unhappy with twisters they can seek refuge at one of the numerous programs in maryland. i hate to sound blunt, but at the end of the day 60 kids will not change the direction of a 500+ athlete program.

I know I'm late but....PREACH GIRL PREACH!!!!

What is your experience of the promote/demote policy for athletes during the preseason and during the season?
We saw very few changes made to teams in the 3 years we were at Twisters. Most changes were due to injuries. I don't believe they would ever demote an athlete with out giving them every chance to make the necessary improvements. My CP struggled with her standing tuck in the fall of her last year (she had been landing it all spring/summer). Her coaches asked her to go "Tuck Clinic" once a week and they had her throw her tuck every time they ran the routine (even when every one else was marking). Not only did they never threaten to "demote" her, they kept her in the front row for the standing tuck section. I think the fact that they believed in her made all the difference and by January it was no longer a problem. (Ironically, she still busted that tuck whenever they went full out under the lights on the back floor, but never at a competition. LOL)

This is extremely sad. As a parent of a child in this whole situation the whole water fountain, $65, merger/didn't merge issue is sad. Kids were the most effected and for some reason the issue has become extremely catty. Whether they "merged" or not Marlins no longer exist and that is devastating to some. People have the right to be upset about having to pay another try out fee (which I understand because they already paid one a month earlier), no water fountain, new teams etc. as they were completely caught off guard. However as adults the insults and attitudes are really unnecessary. Bottom line whether you take your child to Twisters or the new program lets put the energy into the kids and try to move on. The back and forth over trivial things at this point is extremely pointless, it happened and families have to try and adjust and negativity doesn't make it easier. Either go to twisters or don't!
