I'm slightly surprised JAM didn't tack their name onto this, as I consider them Varsity's biggest competitor. I'm proud of these companies for putting their foot down and saying "enough is enough." I think our discontent with Varsity and USASF has been brewing for some time now and if it takes a handful of angry vendors to shake things up, go them!

On the other hand, I'm curious what they've got up their sleeves if this fails. If USASF denies this proposal, are they forming their own governing body? They have everything to lose in this scenario. If things don't go their way are they just going to shrug their shoulder and go "oh well we tried"? Are they going to take some sort of legal avenue I don't know about because I'm not a lawyer? Are they going to pull support and embargo the USASF (which would only hurt themselves)?

And how do things stand for Varsity if they decline? If they choose to keep the hold they have over the USASF? Are we as an industry going to protest them (probably not, they hold way too much)? Are we going to write angry letters? If it were me and I were them, I would begin formulating some serious plan B's right about now.
Probably smart for JAM to not be a port of this. Why replace one big EP with another who would love to increase name brand and power?

While USASF has declined to comment on the matter, we were able to speak with Varsity’s VP of Public Relations Sheila Noone to learn their company’s stance. “Everything Varsity does is with an eye towards what is best for the young athletes we serve,” says Noone. “No one has more of an interest in growing all disciplines of cheerleading than Varsity, and we feel we have been a strong partner to the USASF and its members."

That is from the Cheer Professional post following the original announcement. I think it says volumes about Varsity's thoughts on the matter.

I'm curious to know if they have made a formal proposal? I would think a post on social media is not how typical businesses propose buyouts, mergers, or acquisitions.

When you first wrote that, I didn't realize her last name was Noone, and I thought you mis-wrote no one. As in:

“Everything Varsity does is with an eye towards what is best for the young athletes we serve,” says No one. Ever. :p

In all seriousness, I feel like that post needs to be in the 'Between the Lines' segment of Mock the Week. Towards what is best for the young athletes we serve, as long as it fits in with OUR ideas of cheerleading and we keep our profit margin.

I would expect a response of this nature from any company in this situation. Who in their right mind would shoot themselves in the foot and offer any ulterior motives (if any) as a response.

I think some response like "we will thoughtfully consider the offer" would have been more positive. That response, to me, says "Screw you. This arrangement works for us and we think we're doing just fine."

Positive for them, not the proposal and USASF independence. A more open minded approach would be great but that even leave them open to saying maybe we aren't as good for the industry as we think we are.

I did the same thing....

Like others have mentioned, I expected a response like this from them. Some PR person wrote that statement and short of directly saying "Piss Off" they basically said we will ignore this proposal because we can. They have all the power and they like it that way, it's going to take a monumental effort to gain USASF Independence from the almighty grips of the Varsity brand. I would like to see it happen but it won't be easy.
The question here is what happens when the deadline passes with no positive movement on the issue? What's the next step? Will other EP's and vendors join in? Will Gym owners unite against Varsity (doubtful). Will enough Parents band together to put pressure on Varsity and USASF and more importantly, will it matter?

All Star has been a huge part of my life for a long time. When I went off to school and given the opportunity to cheer at a “big gym” and finished second at Worlds, I could have died happy. I love that so many others have been positively impacted by All Star as well. There’s something special about All Star that people on the outside will never understand. I’ve been on the ProX/ I Miss the X/Fierce Boards since around 2006ish and know how passionate everyone on here is, and know that you want to know what is going to happen next. I don’t know the answer, but what I do know is that whatever happens, it will only improve All Star for everyone. Personally, I am proud of what Varsity has accomplished together with the USASF to help grow and legitimize this sport that we are all so passionate about. We all share the interest of growing All Star, and I can promise you that whatever happens, the best interest of the athletes is the number one priority.

Slightly off-topic, but can someone tell me the relationship between USASF and ISASF? And, what would the proposal mean for ISASF? Anything?

The relationship APPEARS to be IASF is a company/non profit just like USASF….however, there is no FEIN number listed with the IRS…it is apparently a made up "name" that has no bite.

Do you work for Varsity/USASF? If not, you should.
