Can we go back to the discussion about not wanting to train tumblers who compete in a different program?

I just don't get that reasoning. If you are getting paid to coach tumbling, where that athlete uses those skills should not really matter, imo. Am I being too simplistic? I can understand if an entire stunt group came in from a different gym that it could be weird, because basically you are working on someone else's choreo, but if an individual is trying to better his or her individual tumble skills with you (even if they will be used elsewhere) , I don't see what is wrong with that.

We have had athletes "banned" from our facility before.
One for an athlete who left on good terms who began to trash talk the gym and there was something else that happened shortly after that resulted in her dis-allowance, but she is at the gym all the time now so it's whatever.
Another athlete left the program and would come to our open gyms and try to recruit members from our program during the season. that athlete was banned. That athlete has not tried to return to the gym since, but I'm sure that she would be welcomed back if she did.
Other than that we've only had two other instances MAYBE and they've all since frequented the gym with no problems.
Other than that we've only had to ban people for theft.
Unless you steal from us or do something illegal or something our doors are always open.

I can understand being suspended for not paying the bill, but BANNED!! That's overkill IMO.

I don't know the circumstances but I think the cheerleader refused to pay so if that really was the case I can see them getting banned because if they did pay and the gym let them back there is a chance they do it again and that's not fair

I think of it In-N-Out giving their fries recipe to Burger King.
If that makes any sense.

Just now seeing this thread....

this has happened to my youngest daughter this season.

My oldest decided she wanted to leave her current gym and go to another gym.
My youngest had no desire to leave the current gym. But because my oldest left they would not allow my youngest to stay even though the team my daughter made is in no way competing against a team at that gym. My youngest had been there since she was 4 (currently about to turn 10) and all her friends were there and she loves those coaches like family. It destroyed her. Another gym gave her an amazing offered her this amazing youth 4 team but her heart just wasnt in it. she said if she couldnt cheer at her original gym she didnt want to cheer :(

breaks my heart for my youngest.

That's so sad :( I'm so sorry for her, and you.

thats absolutely terrible, and looks extremely bad on the original gym. athletes grow and deserve to have the choice to cheer where they'd like. the gym should have just been happy that your daughter made such a prestigious team!
also, cant wait to see how much she accomplishes this season! she seems like a great fit for the team!

That is so sad...did you try talking to the owners explaining your daughter is heart broken and will not cheer at all because of their rash decision.

I have a different opinion than most I guess. It truly depends on the situation and specifics. I understand these "medal chasers" but lets get real... You can chase all you want, there are no guarantees of success or medals. In most divisions it's 5-10 teams division to win based on performance that day.
If it were someone from my team I'd wish them well in their endeavor but also want to cut my loss for the rest of my team, they afterall are the loyal ones. Why should someone who leaves be hanging around the gym. Go to your new gym. Not trying to sound rude but? It shouldn't be about the person leaving. If they've made a decision for them to leave maybe the gyms have made a decision that's best for them and the team too. If people who leave expect there to be no hard feelings well that goes both ways... It's nothing personal. Just my 2 cents :)

Well, hanging around, maybe that would be counter productive but wanting to take a tumbling class, what is the harm in that? I could spend a year at the new gym and realize the grass is not always greener and want to come back but you slammed the door shut....forever.

It's bad business. Jumping ship and taking other athletes with you always seems so vicious but sometimes the reason you are jumping ship may also apply to others. As long as you are not actively recruiting athletes to leave or any other extreme reason....don't close the door. Just my two cents.

Or telling someone they can never return even if they left a gym and determined they didn't like the new one and wanted to go back the next season. There's no other word for that but stupid.

I just can't believe gyms would do this, if a customer has been loyal for so long one stays and one goes I don't see the issue. My first gym we had two sisters who had started at this gym, the one sister decided that she wanted to try the other gym cause she was more comfortable there and it was a better fit and the other stayed. Both of the teams did compete against each other but it was never an issue for the owners of either gym.

It makes me sad to hear these things about gym owners. Owners, if you are comfortable with your product, others will be too and you will not have to worry about those jumping ship. If you respect those leaving chances are they'll come back and have nothing but positives to say about your facility.

And that is from my experience as an athlete, I have cheered for 3 gyms 2 in the same area and would go back to the very 1st gym in a heartbeat if it was remotely possible.

I may have just taken this the wrong way because I'm tired... But this post seems unnecessarily catty and sarcastic to me. This thread has gone so well (as far as I can tell with not knowing how anyone knows each other outside the board), especially for summer, that it would be a shame to ruin it with a snarky post. I think you had a good point, but maybe it could have been worded slightly better in order to avoid drama.
Or it could just be me being ridiculously wound up because I get my exam results soon, in which case sorry for the useless post!

Other than the last sentence, nothing at all was sarcastic in the least (hence the reason I put "extreme sarcasm" for my last sentence). Nothing snarky or meant to incite drama - just my personal opinion (which I have always used the boards for prior without anyone attacking me for doing that). Anyone can disagree - that is what makes message boards fun - but nothing drama-inciting from my post..... #confused...
