Confused on Ashton as an alternate over Maggie, but happy with the team overall.

I think if Maggie wasn't injured in the spring she would of been in....

But how low key salty are you right now if you're Ragan or MyKayla and finished in the top 5 but gabby and Madison made it over you
I think they made a good choice with the team but it would suck to be either of them.
I hope Laurie gets to compete for the all around at the olympics. On those little predictions she's the only one that was predicted to be used on every event, and she placed second so I really want to see her compete for the AA!

Agreed. Which has to be a real sucky feeling for Mags because she was a lock for the team until that knee injury.

Still confused about Ashton, though. Have we ever taken a specialist as an alternate? It's more like she's the understudy for Kocian and it's weird.

I'd be most Salty if I was Mikayla :/.

I wanted Ashton to make the team too - I think I have a soft spot in my heart for kids that don't do all 4 events . Just sad for her.

To be perfectly honest. I low key feel like Ragan was selected as alternate over Maggie because Bela likes her. He's always favored tiny gymnasts. He prob put in a word for her with the wife. I'm not saying she isn't deserving....her scores indicated that. I'm just don't see any distinguishing need for her over Maggie

You could be right. I was low key creeped out during that footage of him hugging Regan after beam and then patting Kim on the head like she was still a little kid - what is she, 35? Just so over this whole obsession w/ adult/teenage petite people pretending to be, and being treated like they are, little kids! It really annoys me.

Gabby is only going because she is Gabby Douglas and they want to play up the reigning Olympic AA Champ thing. I'd be super salty if I was MyKayla.

Anna Li was an alternate in 2012 and she really only did bars too. If you think about it the 2012 alternates are VERY similar to the current ones: Skinner/Price, Ragan Smith/Sarah Finnegan, and Locklear/Anna Li

Im surprised mykayla wasnt picked. And im confused why ashton was picked as an alternate considering she only does two events.
Id be super upset if i was mykayla as well, considering gabby performances overall. Eh, im just not a big gabby fan this go around.
I wasnt surprised by kocian being chosen, since US needs all the help they can get for bars, she was one of my original guesses as well.
I just would have picked mykayla over gabby.

Anna Li was an alternate in 2012 and she really only did bars too. If you think about it the 2012 alternates are VERY similar to the current ones: Skinner/Price, Ragan Smith/Sarah Finnegan, and Locklear/Anna Li

Makes sense. Except with the 2012 specialist being a vaulter, Anna never really had a chance at being pulled up. Whereas Ashton is actually an obvious replacement for Madison.

And my guess is Mykayla would be the first replacement

So I missed the whole thing tonight well except for Laurie's last part of her beam routine. So I'm crying right now. But I happy Ashton is an alternate. Glad she represented the NA community well. I hope Gabby gets it together soon-only guessing from last night. I'm so excited to see that this team will do in Rio.
