I just want to get everyones opinion on what they think about this. Is it appropriate for a coach to make their athlete promise not to leave their gym?

yes, but what if it's out of guilt? No. Not that it's enforceable, though.

maybe the kids have been at the gym for a few years and have formed a bond with the coaches and the athletes there? so that could be why they feel guilty about leaving. even if they want to try something new, they might miss everyone at the gym.yes, but what if it's out of guilt?
this little girl that had to make this promise is like 9 or 10. she had to promise she wouldnt leave her gym for UA or else she would get kicked off her team. if that's not immature for a coach to do, then i dont know what is.I don't think it is wrong, but it is up to the athlete to make the promise. If you don't promise will they kick you off the team? If so then I would be looking for a new gym. No one knows what can happen in the future so I wouldn't make a promise I didn't know I could keep.

I didn't even open this and had a feeling it would have to do with Illinois. Get it together. Everyone.
If she was threatened to be kicked off then as a parent I would remove my child from that gym and take her elsewhere. To ask a child something like that is just stupid and to me unprofessional the their part. I would actually take my child to UA just in spite, but that is just the inner mean girl in me.this little girl that had to make this promise is like 9 or 10. she had to promise she wouldnt leave her gym for UA or else she would get kicked off her team. if that's not immature for a coach to do, then i dont know what is.
probably because the amount of drama in Illinois cheer is ridiculous.why do you say that?
