My shin has been hurting since I started throwing passes with punch fronts. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or a way to ease the pain?

Shin splints. It's when there's pressure or pulling on the tissues that connect the muscles to your tibia (shin bone). Make sure you ice them and rest for a few days.

I got my punch front before my back handspring (don't ask how that happened) and the first time I went to Woodward I didn't have a back handspring yet, so during open gyms I didn't wanna wait in line for spots on handsprings, so I did punch fronts for like 3 hours a day. By the last day of camp, I couldn't even do a roundoff because my shin splints got so bad. I never do punch fronts anymore because they hurt so bad. Just make sure you ice them every day!!

Yeah I couldn't even complete the jump sequence after my pass because it hurt so bad! I'm hoping the ice will work so that I don't have to mark through things at practice. Thanks!

My CP was just diagnosed with something called Osgood Schlatter's disease which causes quite a bit of pain in her knees. Something to do with growing and putting pressure on the tendons/knees while you do it....Hopefully something she will grow out of.
I have had both a son (competitive tennis player) and daughter (level 5) that have had Osgood Schlatter. While this is very painful, she will grow out of it. However, to minimize the pain when she is practicing and competing (and even at gym class), have her wear some type of patellar tendon strap. Ice and Advil before and after every practice also helps.

If you're landing your punch front in a squat with your butt below your knees that will kill your shins. You have to be able to land it soft and standing up to minimize stress.

Osgood Schlatter's is where you have a sudden growth spurt and your knees don't catch up, putting pressure on the tendons that hold your knee in place. Whenever a parent has a child diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter's I always recommended they take them to a pediatric orthopedic specialist, especially if it was their pediatrician that diagnosed OS. When I was 12 my pediatrician diagnosed me with OS, but sent me to a specialist. Specialist determines I did not have OS but a condition called Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome, meaning the tendons around my knee did not ever attach correctly causing my knees to slide. Unlike OS it doesn't even out eventually, but there is conditioning you can do to build the muscles and relieve the pressure to keep from causing ACL injuries

I hurt my knee doing triple jump in high school, it's never really been the same.

Hurts/Gets Stiff when the weather changes, I have to really make sure i strengthen the muscles around my knee or it kills 7 years later.

I get shin splints sometimes. They're mild but still a pain. I also have what's called snapping hip syndrome but in my knees. It's where the tendons pull and stretch on the sides of my knees just enough that it hurts buy doesn't tear. Mainly elderly people get it in their hips. Because of this it hurts my knees whenever I do splits or streches. Also, whenever I bend or squat to get something that's low to the ground my knees pop/crack.

I am receiving from a very random cheer injury! Had a flyer go on to her heels in an extension and as I stepped back to catch her she landed hard on me knocking me to the ground. I landed straight but my right knee touched the floor to the side. Owwwww. Diagnosed yesterday as torn meniscus on either side and a torn cruciate ligament. Has anyone had any experience with recovery times on this kind of injury?

by cruciate ligament do you mean acl or mcl? i tore both this time around, but tipically mcl is less serious than acl, and meniscus is always kinda bad. im trying to come back without surgery, so it isnt the end of the world, but my knee always hurts so im not the best advice lol

acl. They said that they need to reconstruct it. What sort of pain so you have? Mine is pressure at the front of the knee - especially when climbing stairs. A lot of my leg below the knee is numb still which the doc said is from the swelling but it feels very odd.

I went through that and the same type of problem in my ankle when I was 10-12 in gymnastics. If you have any questions about it PM me!

What about achilles injuries? Not a tear, but after landing her full funny it has been hurting her pretty bad? Any ideas on healing time for achilles tendon pain?
