Ugh yeah that doesn’t sound fun. I think restrictions need to be reasonable but then again people have different views on that.

Life is not all black and white. Mental health is a delicate thing that has to be considered too. I understand your point and what you are saying and do agree. But with complex mental health issues in adults, there are no easy fixes or answers. It is a very delicate and difficult thing to navigate for some. We need to give each other a bit of grace and understanding right now. We are all doing the best we can. As long as there is an effort, that is going to have to be enough. What works for you and your family, may not work for others. Even if we cannot grasp it, giving others a bit of grace, empathy, and kindness never has been a bad thing.
My heart breaks for you. If there is anything I can ever do to help or be supportive, please message me. I am glad you are here. This won't last forever. You are doing a great job.

Our state just shutdown (starting Sat a.m.) all indoor youth sports practices and competitions until mid- January. We were supposed to attend our 1st competition on Saturday. We are so upset for these kids- they have been working so so hard and following all the ever changing protocols- we really wanted them to compete live just once.
Our gym has been doing such a great job through the season keeping everyone safe; Quarantining athletes when possibly exposed, constant sanitizing and we have had no cases since we opened in June.
This whole scenario is so hard for these kids. They can’t go to school full time, can’t hang with friends, can’t participate in the activities they love. Depression rates increase in the winter- I can’t imagine how hard this winter is going to be- being cooped up with nothing to look forward to...
Sorry for the ramble- just so sad.

    Random thoughts re: virtual events:

    If you've competed virtually:

How are you getting it filmed? Are your kids getting it in one take? Multiple takes?

Curious as to how this works because:

If you can do it over and over and submit your best takes, isn't everyone (in theory) hitting ZERO?

Doesn't that make scoring and Worlds/Summit bid stuff a bit skewed?

Ex: If every single team in Large Senior submits a perfect video and everyone in say, Large Coed is perfect on video no deductions, and there is one paid bid - how does this work?

(Unless I am missing something and your paids from last year roll over and this is a complete non-issue?)

What state is that? Your profile says NJ so I was just wondering when that happened considering usually PA isn't too far behind.

    Yes NJ

Indoor high school, youth, and adult recreation sports in New Jersey will be put on hiatus until at least January 2 under new coronavirus rules announced today. also reduced limit on outdoor gatherings to 25 people. Includes practices.
They are saying hockey has high outbreak numbers.
Not included in the ban is college or professional sports. Which seems odd- everything I read talks about colleges having large outbreaks..... Our gym practices 1 team at a time and has less than 15 girls on a team everyone is masked.

The problem with all this is that we are being very forcibly confronted with the fact that this moment/life isn't about all our personal comforts and risk-taking. Our actions are a ripple that push out WAY beyond our own immediate zone. Especially since so many people spread while asymptomatic. We want to pretend our choices are just about us, and they aren't- that's hard to reconcile with after being sold on Personal Independence our entire lives.

You may be comfortable/willing to take the risk, except the risk isn't ABOUT just you. A good friend went to a wedding for her best friend in Nashville (from NYC) a few weeks ago. She wanted to cancel, but she was a bridesmaid and felt pressured and caved. Whelp, she was one of the only people wearing a mask, and she took it off to get ready. She thought the risk was worth it.

Less than 4 days later she starts showing symptoms. A few days after that she's tested positive. Come to find out- SO HAS THE BRIDE/GROOM. They were all willing to take their risks, except she then SPREAD that risk to everyone she came in contact with, from other friends she visited with to airline workers, fellow travelers, her boyfriend, etc. She was flat-out sick for 2 weeks, and NONE of those other people she came in contact with agreed to be at her risk level, but they were exposed to it all the same. In hindsight, would she have gone to that wedding? Probably not.

I think I am mainly struggling with what is and is not restricted and the lack of reasoning behind the choices to restrict. They seem to make no sense to me.
Schools are partially open because they have proven that children do not contract or spread the virus in the same rate as adults. but youth sports are canceled- It is the same population of people in a different setting so this makes no sense to me.

Young adults have been proven to get and transit covid at high rates- college sports are open as are bars....

And I don’t want to get sick nor do I want my kids to get sick but what are the side effects of being cooped up in the house for months on end?

For their entire lives my kids have left the house at 7am and got picked up from after care at 530pm. And then had sports or activities in the evening.
Now they leave the house for a total of 9 hours a week. They are struggling and it is not healthy.and

    I’m sorry for your friend.

I am sorry, it is really brutal for the kids. And it IS so arbitrary: oddly NJ is suddenly considering competitive cheer a sport which makes them subject to the regulations. We have not yet had communications from our program that we are on pause, and it wouldn't shock me if they are trying to provide evidence that they should not be subject to the regulations as they are gyms and not sports (gyms still open at 25%). I want businesses to survive but there is something odd that my kids can't go to school in person or participate in athletic events but CAN go to the mall and eat in a restaurant.

I feel like this is hard on us kids and teens because ik personally I thrive on having a routine. I get so freaked out when my life routine changes, and that causes terrible anxiety. But now we are living in a world where there is no routine.

Correct- This week is the last week of practice. Saturday starts the restrictions. So now we can’t even compete in virtual Comps either.

Just had to book hotel for NCA Dallas. I have mixed feelings about that but it’s not optional to go. The gym expects us to.
