Gym Owners/Coaches:

I have 20 years of cheerleading experience as an athlete and a coach.

I have 18 years of experience working in emergency services, 13 of that as a registered nurse, 6 in a level II trauma center. I am board certified in emergency nursing, board certified in trauma nursing, and carry a state level certification as a trauma specialist. I do public speaking at both the community level and in trauma seminars. I have a few other instructor cards that really don't apply to where I'm going with this.

Is there a market for someone offering to help you develop emergency medical response plans for your gym? This would include injury prevention, assessment, basic management, and an organized thought process to keep your head on straight in those rare occurrences when it really hits the fan?

I am not a gym owner, but I was a stage manager and an event planner for many years. From my five years in all star as a parent, I would say that your services are definitely needed by some of the EPs and gyms. I can't even tell you how disconcerting it is to see an event struggle through a crisis. The communication and assessment skills are lacking and it often puts our kids in danger.

We are lucky at our gym, because we have staff members who specialize in trauma and treatment in their day jobs. They know how to assess and react, but I think that is rare. I have seen some questionable situations at competitions. Training staff how to react, and giving EPs a specific plan to follow that is designed around the building it is in would tremendously help the industry.

IDK if there is an official market but this service/training should be at least required or available. Ms. Betty the sweet little gym receptionist/ mom can only do so much with a bag of ice and band-aids. JS
