My back has really started to hurt this cheer season after pulling needles everyday in my stunts and arching my back very often. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or what they do to keep their back from hurting a lot or ways to stretch out better
before or after so it doesn't hurt as much when I pull it. Things I have done is epsom salt baths, foam rolling (this helps but I don't know very many ways to roll it out), putting on Dr.Teals lotion before going to sleep, etc. Thank you so much for the help!

Daughter had similar issue when flying and especially with pulling needle. First got checked out by MD, everything was fine - kinda figured that, just strain from being stretched in an abnormal position. Started getting a massage at least every other month/monthly when we could and it helped a lot. Have a wonderful lady who is sports specific with the certificates on the wall to back it up. They still see her, now just for soccer aches and pains :)

My daughter has been a flyer for 10 years now. She's complained of this too. At times, so bad she was limping. A sports PT can help you out. Also, start pulling all your body positions on both legs.

Same with cp... Especially since she was used to the opposite leg (right) and had to start with the left. I take her to massages when I can (they're expensive by me and not covered by insurance regardless of issue). I also give her light back rubs/massages with bio freeze or icy hot or tiger balm. We do ice and heat depending where the pain is. You definitely get it check ASAP and u have to stretch both legs equally. Stretching only one side will be harmful in the end

That is a great idea I never thought of that! Thank you I will see if I can do that

Okay thank you! I am going to try out a massage soon I think that will help. And yes I will get it checked and I do stretch on both sides :)

Could also be overuse. You need to see someone and have it checked.
Yeah I think so, for the past 3 weeks I've had back to back to back big 2 day competitions so we have been running lots of fullouts but now I don't have another comp until next month so I get a little time to rest it :)

No I never have but I think I am going to soon

DO NOT play around with this. Littlerazzi flew for years, gorgeous body positions, beautiful needles, all that. Cheered on a fractured spine for months (while getting massages, taking loads of NSAIDS, using ice packs and Icy Hot, which all made it feel better) before MRI and CT showed bilateral L4 fracture.
You're not a physician, your body only knows what feels better. Sure, you can do lots of things to interrupt the pain signals...until a fracture displaces and severs your spinal cord and you end up paralyzed.
I'm not playing. Get your behind to the dr now.

Please, please go to a doctor and get an MRI. My daughter had the same kind of pain for months - went to the doc and x-rays showed nothing wrong. Pain continued so we went to an orthopedic specialist who ordered an MRI and turns out she had a stress reaction, which is the precursor to a stress fracture. Ortho said they see it a lot in gymnasts and cheerleaders due to the repetitive arching from stunting and tumbling. My daughter was out for 8 weeks of rest and PT, but if she had continued to just "work though the pain" she would have fractured her back. I shudder to think of what could have happened if she had fractured it and continued to push through it. As Mamarazzi pointed out above, you can walk and cheer and tumble even with a stress fracture in your back, but left untreated it can have very dire consequences!
Please, please do not blow this off! If your doc orders x-rays and they show you are fine push for a high contrast MRI. Your back is not something to mess with!
